Final revision on PS2 and FX-150

For anyone interested, just finished the custom tuning process with my PS2 and Spool FX-150 HPFP.

Keep in mind, this is on pump 91 and at Denver 5k' altitude.

Two things I'm keeping an eye on and waiting for some thoughts back from the tuner, but he already said this is the final revision:

1) WGDC: feels high being in the 90s, but, if you compare to my v3 logs on my datazap page, for now I'm assuming this is because we're now approaching the max of the turbo and mostly just tapping 100% here and there.

2) Corrections: a couple at 6* or more but mostly seems random across different cylinders and less than 3*. I think I just need to log a bunch more over time and make sure there are no patterns

Did the tuner say why the boost not consistent across the rpm range? Also, this is not the limit of the turbo but the octane. You should be about to push more with e85. But my concern is why boost is not consistent across the rpm range which is also the issue I am facing. Did you fix the wastegate actuator to 6in hg ?

Did you also get the upgrade for turbo inlet? This will help lower wgdc.

By not consistent, are you meaning how it tapers down by redline?

I haven't tested the actuator, but I think the shop did when troubleshooting my old turbo. Not a bad idea to test it again. Yea I have the FTP inlet.

Heard back from the tuner, says ps2 maxes out at 20-22 up top at sea level. So me at 16-17 is just my discount for being at elevation. That explains why wgdc is maxed too.

And timing corrections at 3-6 are plenty common, especially with my crappy 91, even on stock cars.

Sounds like I'm ready to rock and roll once this damn snow clears up.

I forgot about the elevation.... But you should use e85 since you got the pump... It should help with running advance timing.

I'll get onto E, eventually...for now the car is a helluva lot faster than I'm used to so I'll be content for a bit. I got the hpfp bc otherwise the PS2 would've been held back as is...since I'm already at elevation with pump 91 I didn't want the additional hpfp constraint as well.

I don't know anything about meth yet but I was also wondering if that could be the two birds. Going from pump to E just seems like a PITA right now.

I gotta educate myself on meth and what all that'd involve for me...if you have a good read that'll save me a bunch of thread hunting I'm all ears!

What that kit doesn't do since it's not a fogger on the charge pipe, is it doesn't cool your IATs. If you are going e85 I don't think you need direct port meth to increase octane, so it makes more sense to do a fogger to also gain the benifits of the cooler IATs while still gaining the other benefits. There was a good article I read about how water evaporates and causes more compression, how it cleans, etc etc, but I can't find it.

Did some searching on this, seems like I'm scratching the surface of the DPI vs. CPI but seeing that CPI is probably good enough. If I did this, it'd be instead of e85 not with e85.

From your experience, how many miles would your tank of meth last before you had to refill? And how temperamental was it - did you have to log with every refill to keep an eye on it, or was it stable for a long time once you had it dialed in?

I haven't done it yet, but I am planning on doing it. In some applications you can spray the turbo to keep it cool, spray the charge pipe to keep IAT down, or direct port for even octane boost across all cylinders (if you don't trust your intake manifold to distribute it evenly).

When you do this, you have to get a custom tune. So I would assume you'd have a tune for with and without and switching tunes is not hard. There are also fail safes and indicators for when you run out.

How long it lasts all depends on how heavy of a spray you are running. I saw one video of a 1k hp mustang that did about 4 pulls and ran out... but he was spraying the crap out of it. Just for the sake of IAT I would imagine you can go easy on it and make it last.

Honestly... I would avoid meth and get spools e85 certified line with Ethanol analyzer. They give you free app with mixture calculator depending on in tank fuel, so you know how much e85 to fill each time. This will be better since your pump can handle e85 to certain limit (check with spool). This will give you cleaning effects and keep your engine cooler.

I would do that for sure ziekxq, but e85 won't stop the car from cutting back boost when IAT get over 120 or whatever the threshold is. Mine hit into the 130's in normal summer driving.

I wonder what the octane rating is with a good e85 blend and 50/50 meth/water would be. That should allow you to safely crank the boost and advance some timing!

True if you live in a really hot weather area.... My IAT never hit that number with VRSF intercooler. Always around 9-10 degree above ambient during full throttle.

Who's doing your tune? You WG does seem excessively high and your torque seems low too. Looks like your anywhere from 2-3 psi off target. One thing I've learned with the tune I'm on is the the 5 series boost target is a model so according to D Shoup it's a bit more difficult to tune for. This may not be the case if you're EWG. He mentioned PWG is finicky and takes more work to stay on target.

Tuned by Steven@Wedge. I totally hear you on those concerns. The gist I got from Steven was that this is pretty good for Denver's 5k altitude, the PWG is obvi really tough to calibrate - so hitting ~20 psi and just tapping 100% wgdc means we're at right about the max and actually calibrated pretty well for a PWG on 91 pump.

I think the altitude knocks off about 3-4psi.

That all being said, I think I'll eventually run it past Shoup for a 2nd opinion. Meanwhile I'm going to give it a couple thousand miles...it's been a long 8 month process getting to this point, with the custom tune first identifying a busted stock turbo as the weak link, then getting the ps2 and spool fx150 hpfp on, then the fx150 breaking and having to replace it with a new one...I'm hoping for a few clean miles to play with the new setup! My hunch is Shoup would say it's sort of ok as is but he might be a little less aggressive for reliability's sake, and maybe he has some better tables for an F10 n55, but who knows.

You can message him via Facebook and shoot him a log. He is a pretty cool guy and would look at the logs even if you didn't purchase his tune. He added custom tables for me to fix my car issues and car has been running a lot better then before. I don't know about less aggressive but he likes his tuned cars running clean. He also developed his own method of having better control over wgdc on pwg cars and you can read about it on his Facebook page.
