i know in my Integra the only think i had to cover was the alternator.

for me since i can't use any degreaser products at the local car wash i simply on a low pressure setting just spray the entire engine bay.

okay, after a quick search on Google it looks like you don't have to cover anything. most people used Simple Green or Purple Power for degreaser. use low pressure and not high pressure as the high pressure can force water into areas it shouldn't go.

Be sure to use the aluminum safe Simple Green. The regular "green" Simple Green isn't aluminum safe and will "eat" the aluminum parts. IIRC, the purple Simple Green is aluminum safe.

There's something that just doesn't set in with me on spraying water all over my engine without any important parts being protected from the water.. lol

What I do sometimes (because I'm paranoid of damaging the engine components), I just spray a little detail spray on a microfiber and scrub the engine parts/cover. That way it's all dusted off and everything. If you want it to shine, using tire shine is a common practice.

Every time I wash my car I like to wipe engine down this way I never have to power wash it.
How ever on my Maxima I always use power wash and just spray down.
Never have any issues just make sure engine is cool and let it dry after.
should be ok.
