Think I had over 100 customers. All in one subdivision maybe 1/2 mile -- taking a short cut -- distant from my house. Because the route was on the outskirts of town the profit per paper was higher than for the other paper routes in town. But I don't remember the numbers now. Made enough/saved enough to buy a new 26" Sears bicycle. And then enough to buy a new 22" gasoline powered lawnmower. After about 2 years the news paper company lowered my profit to what the other routes were paying and I quit the news paper delivery business. |

...when you've been driving BMWs since 1987 and been driving them half your life.
I bought my first BMW when I was 38 years old. It was a beautiful, to me, 1988 528e with 5 speed. What a great car it was. It's hard to believe I've been driving the brand for 38 years now. |

This is my second MB and it'll be the last. Both of mine ended up with the driver's seat material separating and my current MB has way too many things I hate about it. But I'm done with car payments for as long as I can manage it.

Many years ago I asked one of my German suppliers what was best, BMW or Mercedes. His response was one is a car and one is a taxi.

I started working for people other than my parents when I was 12, helping a neighbor cut up and apply creosote to old railroad ties and then drive giant spikes through them to keep them in place along her driveway.
I did not have a paper route. I went straight to the source, working as a gopher for the advertising department of the local rag. When I got my driver's license my role expanded to include weekend runs to pick up printing plates. They had one of those VW beetles with the "automated" stick shift where the clutch was operated by pressing down on the shift lever. I flogged it mercilessly. My first BMW was a 1968 2002. It was ridiculously out of my price range and I ended up selling it back to the dealer within a year and getting a clapped out Camaro with 6 cylinders and 3 manual speeds. Kept a case of oil in the trunk. I have a Mercedes, 2013 350 4Matic wagon. It's great. Handsome, all-day comfortable, powerful enough, 30+ mpg on highway runs. 12 bags of mulch in the cargo hold don't phase it in the least. But yeah, the driver's seat, shod in supposedly indestructible MB Tex, has splits in it. I had stopped listening to music in any serious way by the time Ozzy came on the scene. |

basic MB-Tex. I had to have the bottom of the driver’s seat material replaced at about 70,000 miles and the front passenger’s seat same, same at about 80,000 miles. $450.00 each time. After that, rear shock tower reinforcement plates (rattled), followed by motor mounts (vibration). In otherwords, much like any other car I’ve owned. Current 2024 GLC300 is a nice car. Handles much better than the GLK350, better tire wear and much better MPG. I’m seeing 33 to 38 highway consistently. Plenty of power, too - better than the GLK300.

I asked my swiss cousin who drives nice cars his take. He said the BMW is a drivers car and the other is a couch on wheels. I think that's a little harsh but that description works for me. When I rented an e-class while in Europe, it was super comfortable and I liked ferrying the family around Europe for 5 weeks in it. That said, when I got back home I couldn't wait to get back into my 5er. It's nice we have choices! |

when “turning it off and on again” is basically your entire troubleshooting strategy
when your back makes sound effects you didn’t install when staying up late means 11:30 PM and not 3 AM |

I think the first clutch I learned to drive was an old Masey-Fergusson on grandpa's farm, probably around 10yo. It may have been my uncle's old motorcycle (something like a Honda 90) that never seemed to have any handles to operate either the clutch or the front brake. THAT was fun getting into first gear. . .

I have everything that I wanted as a teenager, only 50 years later.
I don't have to go to school or work. I get an allowance every month. Must be doing a good job cuz I just got a raise. I have my own pad. I don't have a curfew. I have a driver's license and my own car. The people I hang around with are not scared of getting pregnant and I don't have acne. Life is great. I changed my car horn to gunshot sounds. People get out of the way much faster now. Gone are the days when girls used to cook like their mothers. Now they drink like their fathers. I didn't make it to the gym today. That makes five years in a row. I decided to stop calling the bathroom "John" and renamed it the "Jim". I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning. Old age is coming at a really bad time. When I was a child I thought "nap time" was a punishment. Now it feels like a small vacation. The biggest lie I tell myself is... " I don't have to write that down, I'll remember it". I don't have gray hair... I have "wisdom highlights"! I'm just very wise. If God wanted me to touch my toes, He would've put them on my knees. Last year I joined a support group for procrastinators. We haven't met yet. Why do I have to press one for English when you're just going to transfer me to someone I can't understand anyway? Of course, I talk to myself. Sometimes I need expert advice. At my age "Getting Lucky" means walking into a room and remembering what I came In there for. I have more friends I should send this to, but right now I can't remember their names. Now, I'm wondering... did I read this here before posted it?
