Clock Spring Replacement
Does anyone know what’s involved with this? I have a family members car that needs it replaced and I located the part but hear it needs to be programmed to work correctly. Any input would be appreciated. The car is a 2011 535i

Here’s the procedure I’ve used in the past. This should be all you need to do as far as I know for a direct swap. You will need E-Sys to do this.
Coding new BMW SZL module (clock spring) Connect to the vehicle using e-Sys 1. Start e-Sys and connect to the vehicle 3. Select “Expert Mode” on the left 5. Select “Coding” on the left under “Expert Mode” 6. Load the Vehicle Order 8. Right click on the FA and select “Activate FA” 9. In SVT Actual section, click “Read (ECU)” Inject CAFD 1. Find the SZL_LWS ECU in the ECU tree on the left and select it 2. Click “Detect CAF for SWE” 3. A window will open with the list of options, scroll down and select the latest version 4. Right click on the SZL_LWS ECU in the ECU tree on the left and select “Code” |

I believe before I did the coding it all worked except for the HBA button and my paddle shifters, so you may be good to go if the clock spring is from a car that has the same options as yours. |
