Ski hatch stuck / broken?

Has anyone else had the pass-through trunk hatch or ski hatch get stuck closed? I tried to open mine to place a long item in the trunk and was left holding the handle…

I’ve seen others mention using a pair of flat head screw drivers to open a hatch in a 3 series, but I haven’t figured out how that would work with this vehicle. I can’t see any visible mechanism for how it opens.

I’ve successfully reassembled the pieces you see and tried to open the hatch, but it remains stuck.

On my 6 series, you can do two things, you can press the round button on the upper right corner which allows you to use the ski bag (itself)…and you can insert skis or anything of length (from the trunk) into the bag…and whatever you are inserting (like wet skis) will be retained within the bag…at least the part that sticks into the interior of the car.

You can also remove the ski bag unit itself…I assume this is what you were attempting when the handle broke?

What happens if you try pushing inward from the trunk side while someone else is pulling forward and lifting the ski bag out (as written in the owner manual)?

I was able to put the plastic pieces back together and put a couple dots of superglue on a piece of trim to hold it all together. While it doesn’t have spring tension for the latch, it looks completely normal and functions the same.
