I hope I'm wrong, but it seems like BMW is getting back to sausage of different length era, where all it's models look pretty much the same except for size. It was a bland and unexciting period, design-wise. This new 5 series seems to borrow the front headlights of the e90 and the side of the 7 series, not ugly, but not innovative or exciting in anyway, and very "sausage" like to me.

Especially the new 3er coupe will be to die for, I'm hearing. My BMW sources are drooling over the design proposals. All of the final ones are more than amazing. We are still a bit away from the chosen one, but all proposals are - so I'm told - very exciting.

Brilliant.

The glass mat battery etc. takes away zero performance so why would you get rid of it?
I know exactly what Efficient Dynamics is, as well as what it's about and what it's for. I like all the fuel efficiency ideas and keeping emissions low. I just don't like the start stop electric motor interference and also not crazy about technologies that are not yet mature (ie: reliability).

As you could see in F1, there was no real benefit in terms of overall performance, on the cars running KERS*; thus all teams have agreed to not run them in 2010.

P.S.: Think of our lovely electronic throttles ... are they not fun and wonderful in the lag they have? It's so sweet when you are doing rapid runs + rapid shifting ... just to feel the latency in reaction time vs the previous direct connection that was to the throttle body.

Its beautiful, but its heavier yet again. I guess eventually they will get to the point where they just cannot add anymore weight. Who wants to guess how much that will be for a midsized sedan? 4500 lbs? 5000 lbs?

The beauty of all this is that E60 ///M's will drop even more in price when the F10 ///M gets released. I curious if BMW will use the same 550hp turbo engine in the new 5's ///M that is already in the X5/X6 ///M.

But now an E60 ///M with Miestecraft Exhaust sounds real good about now.

LOL, you wish. Looks nothing like the E90. The E90 looks like a shoe with a couple roundels slapped on it. The F10 is taut and elegant. You can't compare the two.

It's called design heritage and it was a mistake to abandon it. The first photo in this thread proves it. Of all the cars shown, the E60 is the one that doesn't belong. I don't even acknowledge the E60 as a "real" BMW.

Here is my take:

Front like the F1 7 series
Rear like the e92 3 series
side profile/door panels like the e90 3 series.

Looks like they took be best of all three and made something better than the parts.

Boooooring. It's a stretched 3 series with a few touches here and there.

Yeah, same sausage different size. Looks nice though. I was really digging the bangle line up though. Every car from the 7 to Z had it's own look. I really loved the avant garde look of my old 550i. This is nice too but very plain.

I'm with you. For a $50-80K automobile, the plastic front bumper looks like an afterthought. Ditto the 7, see one in person - a huge gap, poor fit. All I can say is "why"? The entire range with have this design element - the bolted on front grill/bumper with a huge ugly line on top. Too bad.
