I know Dinan is overrated. I had a 1 series before this and stayed far away from them. There aren't to many exhaust for the f10 single tips on each side. I actually like how a muffler delete sounds I might go that route now

Why was the original PE superceded after only a year on the market, and the replacement has remained the same ever since? That's one of my questions, wondering if the two part numbers sound different or if there's truth to the reports that it's just about BMW making more money on exhaust tips.

Having different sounds from the two part numbers would explain why many in the forums say they can barely even hear a difference, and others (like me) report that it has annoying levels of drone. I know that PEs are factory options on various F cars sold these days. I can't see my PE being factory equipment on any BMW except maybe something "competition pack"

I too have the PE on my 535i F11, and find the drone annoying. You are not alone.

MPE Drone or Not

I just had my MPE installed yesterday on my 2013 535i Xdrive. I can confirm that it is louder. Nice baritone burbles and acceleration tone. I'm not sure if I'd classify the cabin noise as drone though since my ears don't hurt and I haven't had to roll down the windows. It is similar to the sound of my Porsche 911 Sport Exhaust. It's just louder and the added noise can get annoying.

The car is definitely not luxury quiet anymore but I didn't expect it be. However, I am going to add some sound dampening material in the trunk next week. We will see how much that helps.

I used this and it worked well. It was recommended to me by a guy that ran a M5 exhaust on his 535 and the drone was killing him. Plus, it's relatively cheap.

Really interesting about how some people feel about drone? What may be drone to me may not be to others. They should have a list of mufflers with confirmation or db levels of what's considered drone that way we all know what to expect

i tried some some dampening in the trunk under the liner around the battery compartment and noticed nothing.

maybe I bought the wrong stuff

I previously had a supersprint cat back exhaust. Too loud, so swapped to the MPE.

now is not so loud but good to me especially after the supersprint.

I kept the supersprint centre pipes with resonator and mated the MPE mufflers to it.

I have the Dinan exhaust on my 535i and am very happy with it. Looks aggressive and doesn't have much drone in comfort mode, and none is sport mode. Price is very reasonable too.

By seat of the pants, my new Dinan Exhausts have a drone better on Sport Mode. I am begining to ignore it and kind of like it at times. Sport Mode it gives a sporty sound with acceleration I really like. FWIW.

I'm in the market for an exhaust I have a 2012 535xi and I can't decide between Dinan and The MPE exhaust. I've heard the Dinan is a little quieter then the MPE. Can anyone confirm? I want something that is relatively tame ridding around (a little louder then stock) but when under wot you know it's there. I'm currently leaning towards the MPE.

So I've had my MPE for two weeks and I installed the sound dampening material in the battery compartment, trunk roof, and made a false back across the seats. I didn't notice a big improvement with the sound material.

However, my MPE seems more mellow to me now than when I first installed it. Cold start is loud, no argument there. It just is. Noticeable drone is 1800 to 2000 RPMs under light acceleration or up a hill. Beyond that, it is louder but fine IMO. However, my wife was in it yesterday and couldn't stop complaining how loud it was. Of course she was a little louder than the MPE

So since there is a loud start that decreases with warming, can we
put in any kind of control to keep it loud or quiet?

Putting the car in sport mode increases the RPMs and that helps to quiet it some.

good job you didn't get a super sprint exhaust like me then. Wife was livid.

but cunning plan was to then get a MPE which is quieter than the super sprint so she is happier now
