Engine Bay Part Identification Help..
Good Morning! Hoping someone might be able to help me out - Opened my hood this AM and noticed some kind of foam had disintegrated in the back of the engine compartment against the wall- Not sure if it's soundproofing or some kind of heat shielding - I'm attaching a bunch of pictures - If anyone can help me identify the part I would really appreciate it - Tried searching all the parts sites and I cannot figure it out.
Thanks for your help! |

What model/model year f10 5 series is this? None of the pictures are far enough away to identify which engine bay….and you have no vehicle info listed other than f10.
If you’re familiar with realoem.com or bimmercat.com…input your VIN info or select accordingly and look for the sound insulation pieces for your engine bay. The diagram should be in the VEHICLE TRIM diagrams. Again, with no model/model year info…I don’t want to post up the wrong part nbrs and diagrams. Examples are probably #2 -#8 in the diagram below. You could also try to remove one of the pieces if it will stay intact and not crumble apart…then check if there’s a BMW part number still on one of the pieces…that can help pinpoint which diagram to look in:

Sorry - This is for an N95 engine so a 2012 535ix - - I tried matching up the pic to the engineering image you posted - It looks like I have 2 pieces but the pic shows one large piece.. confused here..
Thanks again! |

Can't believe I said N95 (Covid on the Brain) - You are correct an N55 bay -Would prefer to replace the sound insulation vs just some tape - that is if I can locate the part - Nothing in the Diagram looks right.
Thanks for the help |

Thanks for the additional info. I would say look at #3 & both #4s (both left & right)...based on your engine...it doesn't use #5.
Try typing "BMW xx xx x xxx xxx" (where x = the 11 digit part nbr listed in the database) to see if you can find actual images to compare with what you see in your engine bay. Example: #3 (BMW part # 51 48 9 139 205)
