Regardless of what you get, pick up a datacolor Spyder. The personal basic one can be found for cheap. https://www.datacolor.com/photograph...ew/#workflow_2

I've been debating a Surface Pro just for portability with having it with me when i am traveling.

My desktop at home does just fine with the ultra wide 4k.

A couple of years back I purchased the Surface Book with the Performance Base for the sake of having the best I could get. I'm still confident that the Surface Book is a better system than the Surface Pro just because of the keyboard interface to the tablet. I am an owner of an original Surface Pro as well which I bought when it was first introduced. The Keyboard/tablet interface is too flimsy for me. I hate to think of the number of times I've been using it in bed and have been bonked in the nose by the tablet as it fall forward into my face.

But as you said yourself. The best option is to have an external screen where you do the most edits and then have a portable yet powerful enough laptop for on the road edits.

Yeah! It is a great option! Be sure to use it well for your desires. For example I used to create my service apkworlds.com with it.

I'm also a photographer, and I mostly use my laptops for editing. I've owned many in the past(since I have a horrible tendency to break them somehow), and I have a few favorites. My all-time favorite was the 16-inch MacBook Pro. Its display is not 4k, but with this laptop, it doesn't even matter. I love how easy to use and minimalistic it is(like all Apple products, for that matter). I also enjoyed using the HP Spectre x360 15, which luckily does have a vivid 4K OLED display. It's also perfect for product photo editing, which I basically do every minute of the day.
