Good price for N63tu oil filters?
I was looking to buy some oil filters for my 550i (BMW/Mann/Mahle) and this was the best price I found and is also OEM filter... $14.85 with free shipping.
https://www.amazon.com/BMW-11-42-7-5...1-42-7-583-220 I also found Amazon has gone nuts with their oil prices (used to be my "go to" for oil) since they started pushing "amazon basics" oil. They wanted like $130 for a case of three 5qt jugs of Castrol Edge 0W40 LL-01. Found the same case of three delivered in same time from Wallyworld website for $89. https://www.walmart.com/ip/3-Pack-Ca...5-QT/661533466 |

Well, it's actually ~$38.56 for 6.5 qts of oil at this price and a 535i Mann filter is only $9.70 on amazon so~$49 in materials. So for $51 savings I can throw it up on my quick jacks and do it myself in about 30min... The 550i is going to be a little more as the filters are ~$16 and I read it takes 9 qts... I doubt the dealer would do a 550i for $100... Probably more like $150 vs. $70 worth of materials to do it myself.

My manual showed a range of acceptable oils as long as they were LL-01, LL-01 FE, or LL-14 FE+ (which I have not been able to find in US). 0w40,0w30,5w30, 5w40 are OK. Some engines could use 0w20 or 5w20 (probably for cold climate). (FE seems to mean fuel efficient).
This has a good explanation of BMW oil specs. https://www.oilspecifications.org/bmw.php Last edited by Luky; 02-26-2019 at 01:08 PM.. |

I was also looking for LL-04 for the diesel motors as it has a better additive package that is not compliant with US EPA for gasoline engines. (More ZDDP or something). From a discussion on Bob the oil guy forums.

Thanks for the link - that is a helpful description. I was only asking because my 2016 550 actually has "0W30" on a sticker in the engine bay. I did read in the manual where all of those viscosities should be OK, so the stick in the engine bay threw me a bit.
