700 miles on my CT4-V Blackwing 6MT

Had this about 2.5 weeks now. Somewhat of a random purchase, as I have a CT5-V Blackwing and M4 Comp xD on order. The M4 finally got a VIN 1 week ago. I have never previously owned a Cadillac or BMW, but I have had many GM trucks.

The Cadillac is indeed nothing short of spectacular. Starting at under 60k, I feel it is in its own league at that number. It has been so much fun to drive, especially the last 200 miles. The manual gearbox is so solid. Very rewarding to operate.

My M4 is ordered exactly as I want. Obviously, it is a 2 door automatic versus a 4 door manual, and most probably would not cross shop these two. But the M3, obviously w/ the CT4-V Blackwing.

I have test driven a M4 Competition on 3 different occasions, the last time being 30+ minutes alone. The car is such a beast, to think the xDrive is even more, hard to imagine. Here would be the things I like better about each, obviously knowing the BMW less than the Cadillac:

Advantage Cadillac
- Steering wheel, the thickness is perfect and it looks way better for me.
- Driver gauge cluster. I like the display options much more than the BMW. You can also dim the panel at night and it shuts off every light in the car except a small center gauge with gear, RPM, and MPH. Way cool.
- Audio system, no doubt about this one
- Exhaust and motor sound - also no doubt. The X4 Comps I tested were nauseating with the amplified sound. I would never use it. I hope it is not automatically enhanced with sportier modes in the M4. I guess using the M1/M2 buttons, I can keep it off. The Blackwing is deeper and throaty. The BMW higher pitched and sort of whiny.

Advantage BMW
- Acceleration. Much faster than the baby Blackwing.
- Fit and finish - not a strong point of any GM brand.
- Interior - not even close. I see these current pre-large screen BMWs as as good as it gets. I don't love the shiny black plastic around the shifter and buttons, and the same for that awkward piece around the driver side air vent. But small nitpicks. The Cadillac has everything you need, and probably easier to navigate than the BMW, but wow does it look unexciting.

Draw
- Aesthetics. I happen to love the large beaver teeth kidney shape whatever you call it. And the tail is awesome too. The hood, killer.
The Blackwing has a more menacing appearance, especially in the dark color I have. I do like the streamline lights, although feel the CT5-V Blackwing looks better.
- Seats - I was able to sit in carbon buckets and they are not for me. But the standard BMW M seats are terrific. So are the Cadillac upgraded seats. Small nod to the Blackwing for including a very effective massaging function. I love it.

Driving dynamics
- The Blackwing is awesome. Absolutely awesome. When you change the car parameters - engine, suspension, brakes, exhaust - you notice distinct differences. The turn in and front end is so precise, and you feel it all in the wheel. The LF4 engine is not an equal to the S58, but coupled with that Tremec manual transmission, the experience is quite rewarding.
- When I last drove the M4, I thought "it is too fast". No such thing, right, but in some sense a slower car gives you more time to enjoy it. I did feel the ride is somewhat numb in the BMW. I'm hopeful it is just "different", and that with more seat time I would come to enjoy it.
- The AWD system with winter tires will make it a real 4 season car for me. I would get winter tires for the Blackwing to drive it when cold, but probably avoid snow days.

2 very different cars with different personalities. Not sure where the dust will settle for me, but getting to that point sure is fun.

I REALLY wanted a CT4V… I get a small discount through my job and cross shopped that with an F80 M3, but sadly dealer markups on the Caddy drove me away. I think they look phenomenal!

Great looking car, I've heard nothing but fantastic things about both Blackwings. Enjoy it!

I'd take mine in highlighter blue with the tan interior and both carbon fiber aero packages.

Sadly, I don't make enough money to afford a nearly $80k car.

Sweet CT4BW! I wanted to buy a CT5BW, but after waiting for almost a year on an allocation and with the 2023 $7K price increase (not including the CF1 increase), I decided to go with a 2022 M5C. I placed my order last week for the M5.

Love the comparison! When I saw the new blackwings coming out I fell in love. Strongly considering that S/C V8 as a daily.

Is that the shadow metallic? Colors look wonky on the website builder.

Yet the CT4 has a hearse/2nd gen Seville bustleback rear end and relatively plain styling otherwise...

Anyhow, always interesting to see how different manufacturers can create a completely different driving experience depending on their interpretation of "performance."

it looks better than the g80 but thats not saying much. relatively plain like germanauto said. also odd they went with 18s on whats nearly a 2 ton sedan. i mean it def improves performance and ride quality... but cheapens the look.

as with most GM products you get alot for your money which is where the caddy wins against competitors.

Nice. the CT5-V Blackwing is the only car I would replace my Hellcat with (It's my daily so limits options) right now. Unfortunately, I will not pay $100k for it.

When I secured the car, my dealer called with a list of about 10 options to choose from. I think 4 were manuals, so that narrowed it down quick. These were cars for the dealership that were not yet reserved. One was an electric blue with all the carbon bits. My car stickered at just over 69k. I honestly don't like the downplanes and prefer the carbon 1 package on the CT5VBW, so I was happy to save the $.

I first ordered a 5 in September. Then a 2nd in December. Still have the second one reserved (first one was at a dealer that gets no units, my bad trying to go to the local guy), but the allocation is not yet picked up. If I get it, I am stuck with the increases. I love the 4 so much I might drop it, but there is a new frozen grey color coming and I think I can get one. We'll see.

Mine is Shadow Metallic, and in better sunlight the blue really pops. Sadly, this color is discontinued for MY23. I absolutely love it.

Well, I have an M4CxD on order and I plan to add it when it comes in. With 3 test drivers of a regular M4 Comp, I can tell you the Blackwing offers a superior ride quality. The magnetic ride suspension is amazing, and you really notice it in the basic Tour mode (which is the default non-adjusted ride mode in the car). I think BMW calls it "Road", but that is so much stiffer the the Caddy. I could care less if other people think it is a "cheap" look. I'll take the better ride quality.

Yet still, the M4 appeals to me more aesthetically, I just wish it offered the same ride attributes as the Blackwing.

Little update on this thread. Up to 1000 miles now on the CT4-V Blackwing. It is a super car, and to reiterate an earlier point, I don't think anything compares at the entry price of 60k.

That said, I visited my BWM dealer today. I posted 2 months ago about an overly loaded Chalk M4 that came available. It recently arrived and is available for purchase (sticker is around 120k). I wanted to go see the Tartufo interior, which I specified on my Skyscraper build. To sit in this brand new M4, with full Tartufo - the feel of luxury goes far beyond the Blackwing. I suppose comparing base to base prices, the BMW should offer more as it costs a significant amount more. But you simply can't option a Cadillac to ever be as nice on the inside as one of these M cars.

And I stand my initial assessment of the exterior - it is awesome. I still like my Blackwing, but I love the sportier, more exotic looking M4.

No Sir. I went for 2 reasons - first, I had not sat in an M4 for a while, and I wanted to refresh. I won't lie, the Blackwing is spectacular enough that I could keep it and be quite content with nothing else. But this car is amazing inside and out. Second, I wanted to see Tartufo once more, as I last saw that color in January when I placed my order. I do love it. It would be even better if they used black stitching, as this color is the only one that does not include some black in the seats.

If this Chalk did not have all of the carbon bits and carbon brakes, I would consider it. I am not a fan of the carbon side skirts and excessive detailing, and I still like Skyscraper more than this color. But it is a helluva machine, and available now. I posted it on the purchasing forum as someone should snap it up. Here are a few of those photos.

The seats are nice. Otherwise, it looks like a cartoon.
