I miss the DCT and would rather have that than the ZF8

Lol the E60 is the red headed stepchild of the group. So ugly.

The Bangle design elements worked on the E63 6er.

Maybe someday BMW will finally show the E34 M5 Touring unicorn powered by the S70/2 (6.1-liter V12 McLaren engine).

It exists.

That was a great video, some awesome prototype in there. I wonder why BMW has not shown these before.

E46 CSL with a 430hp V8
E60 CSL DCT with a 5.7L 630hp 9,000rpm V10

I'm guessing they were waiting for a special occasion, and the 50th anniversary was as good as any.

I've got a feeling we haven't seen the last of them 🤞

We Are M: the CSL Story - Part 1: M Automobiles That No One Has Ever Seen

Beauty is certainly in the eyes of the beholder. I think the e60 is beautiful, just not with those wheels and that paint scheme. Plus needs to lose the chrome. I love how Hans says they painted the carbon fiber roof/put a sticker on it, because "we spoke about understated", "not everyone needs to see it". Yeah, that paint/decal scheme screams understated.

Those of you who haven't driven DCTs during 2008-2013 BMW era, you should do yourself a favor.
There is a special mechanical feeling about it.
I much prefer that 'feeling' over ZF8.

They're all large which is why I have a 718 GTS now in part. I'm glad BMW is still trying to make fun cars with everyday practicality though.

Agreed, the DCT is my favorite automatic. Poraches PDK is still the best out there for 'normal' cars but BMW had a great one with their older DCT and the most recent M-DCT. I know people hated the lurching it would do but that made it more fun.

So... how would things go if M3 CSL had that V8? Also, I really wish they kept the DCT in M5 and M6! Would be fun to have them before F10 and F13. But SMG is what made those two cars so good, maybe people wouldn't like them if they were DCT.

It's fun to see how M gets to play around with different engineering concepts and then to see which make it into production. Thanks for posting!

Man the E46 CSL with the V8 engine… If they had a sedan E46 M3 then I would have been set for life. I know of some conversions but would have been awesome to get one straight from factory.

This. The first car I ever fell in love with was a 2003 e46 325i.
We cling on to what struck us when we were young, so if they ever made the sedan version, I would be first in line

It's amazing to me how well the E46 design has stood the test of time. It's as beautiful to me today as it was when I first saw it…if not more so.

Oh yeah, and let's put a V8 in it
