X5 or ?

Thinking X5 as daily,thoughts opinion,rants.....I would love to hear your opinions as I'm thinking of this vehicle against all I know about its previous reliability from hearsay and such.
In prelims on the matter and looking to get schooled by those in the know.

4 currently in my family with a total of 5 purchased. We have owned them consistently since 2003 with my mom just purchasing her second after her first was totaled.

Strengths - Fast, relatively nimble, great looking in the right color, nicely appointed.

Ive had an N55 X5 as a loaner for a few weeks and I hate it. This car is uncomfortable, rides harshly, and is just not a good car for the money.

Both. The seats are shaped really weirdly and it rides harder than my old Explorer.

The amount of X3s and X5s that I see in the shop here at the dealership that I work at is hilarious.

If you must get one, stay on top of maintenance.

I've had 2. Both have needed several fixes. Love my x5d as use for tow rig also. In shop now actually had sensor in urea tank go bad and only way to fix is to replace whole unit. Also the front headlight washer cover and tube somehow blew off. Love the vehicle itself but can be spendy to maintain. I find it very comfortable,one x1 can't get seating right at all. Wheel blocks instruments, knees hit wheel, back hurt after 30 minutes in it.

I'm almost OCD when it comes to car maintenance so as long as my wallet car keep up lol

How much they want for the Urea tank?
Also what do you tow,and does the motor handle it well?

I've had 2 X5's as daily drivers, a 2009 and a 2012, Still drive the 2012 every day. Traded the 2009 in on the 2012 at 36,000 miles.
Both are great cars.
Have 34,000 on my 2012 and zero issues. Great SUV, plan on getting another when the 2017s arrive.

X5 is my wife's DD. I don't get to use it extensively unless we go on long trips which I've done a few times. Since we bought it back in 14, we had three problems with it but all were dealt with in a timely manner. I'd say it's not a practical DD but my wife loves it and wants to get a new one. As a point of comparison, the F30 which was bought on the same day has twice the mileage of the X5 and has had zero issues other than the battery discharge message that appeared last winter and went away once the weather got warmer. My brother has a Q7 and one of my friends had the MDX, I'd take the X5 over all those any day.

I had an X5 Diesel, it was fine. I had sport seats, they were not particularly comfortable.

I had a Cayenne S before it and loved it.

We currently have a Escalade ESV (I think thats what you call the Suburban sized one) because we need the room for the kids. It nice, the seats in my Raptor are more comfortable for me.

If I didn't need room for kids and I wanted an suv, I would look at Porsche SUVs, Jeep, Explorer, Denalis are nice if you want full sized SUV, depending on budget.

It's covered under cpo. I tow my e46 m3 track car and it does really well. Also have jbd tune.

I went from a 135is to an F25 with N55 as my new daily driver. I find the X3 to be very comfortable without the bloated suv feel. The N55 is plenty for everyday driving, trunk space is just right and 5 adults can sit comfortably. Car has been reliable thus far. I would go for the X5 if you need to tow, else I think the X3 can do if all for a very reasonable price.

I had an 08 x3 that I traded for a 2012 x5 35d. The x3 had 140k under her belt and was excellent. I love the x5. The diesel is great, with tons of torque (albeit a tad noisy). It is really comfortable with comfort seats (best seats I've ever had) and on 20inch rims. It's got a ton of room to, more than enough to for my 105lbs Alaskan malamute. I highly recommend looking at one.

I love my 2012 X5d. Have only had it for eight months. The urea sensor went out for the diesel but the whole unit was replaced under warranty. I find the car extremely comfortable and super quiet, except for the slight diesel grumbling which I love.

I have no idea how anyone can say this car is harsh and uncomfortable, compared to what, a Bentayga.

It isn't a hybrid and with it's high profile it will make some noise displacing all that air, I guess I'm just a poor slob that hasn't been in a quiet luxo barge SUV.
I've owned a few SUVs and this has been my favorite. Took it on a road trip from Texas to California to LV to NM and back to TX. It was wonderful averaging 28mpg or 600m per tank. When I drive it after cruising in my M3 I realise how raw and noisy the M3 is and how restrictive the seats are. If I were to give the family the choice on which to take, they'd choose X5 every single time.

It's still under warranty but will definitely buy an extension, don't think I'd own it without it.
