OK! I have had it. My lazy 550i! Oops. Turns out to be the wheels. The OEM 356 20" are just too heavy for this car. Turns out they weight about 15.6Kg each according to OEM specification! That's a whooping 34.4lbs!
Always wonder why the car turns a bit lazy, and also a bit lazy off the line. I know the 550i has enough power but..... wheels... hmm.... So I looked thru all the wheels. The only breyton I want will be the GTSR-M but it only fits M vehicles. So I went for the tried and trusted (by RC3) Forgestar F14. Sent and email off to Forgestar inquring about weight. Low and behold, the F14 20" for the F10 is about 24-25.5lbs! That's almost a 10lbs saving each wheel! And I managed to locate a set locally. But only set here is in gunmetal (sorry RC3..... no choice but to follow your beautiful wheels). On my "old" PZero Heros. Boy! The 550i is a completely different car off the line! Haven't tried cornering yet as I had to rush home to pick up my daughter. I can really tell the differences between the F14 and the 356 in terms of city driving so far: 1) Snappy off the line from stop. The lazy feeling is gone 2) Snappy acceleration! 3) Bonus: Braking is now way more responsive. Haven't really toss the car around yet so can't really comment on the steering response. Hope to test it soon Some Dirty pictures: Last edited by mlai; 05-24-2011 at 05:55 AM.. |

Geezzz. We are twins now mali. Just kidding, you have a much better car.
Can't go wrong with the Forgestar, congrats! They are really value for money. But you should have let me know and I will sell you mine. Just joking. The Breyton GTSR-M is also light weight while all other Breyton models are really not that much lighter than the OEM. And the Forgestar is made in USA. So you made an excellent choice mlai. BTW, you have the 9JF and 10.5JR? Alex, mlai's car is retrofitted with M aero kit. He got the aluminum window trim option. No M-sport here in Hong Kong yet.

I would have loved the F14 in Machine-Black 2-tone, though
The sad part is that I like the design and look of the 356 better and I have to part with those Ah well, I can always hope for something better to come along PS. Asked around for BBS FI, Vossen, i-Forge.... etc. All have to order and looking at more than 2.5month wait.

That's right. All these brands have to be custom made and wait. I waited 2 months for mine. But I ordered them well in advance. Hehe. You are so fortunate to have a readily available set. If I have the $ like you and can wait, my choices will be I-forged, Adv.1, HRE or Forged1.
The machine black two tones is discontinued man. Don't know if they still make them. I know you like the 356 better, but what's the use of pretty shoes which can't dance.

Can we have better photos please? Actually I'd like too see how the gunmetal works with the M aero. Not many gunmetal out there with dark color M sport.

Wow nice wheels! The Forgestars really look great on the F10.
I will have to agree with you that machine black works even better than gunmetal grey for Sophisto. Maybe you can try Morr VS8.2? That's what I'm gonna install in mine except mine will be in Sig Silver. Took almost 2.5 months to get my wheels but they should arrive this monday. 22.8 lbs front and 23.4 lbs rear. |

Nice wheels! Considered Morrs but a real hassle to get them to Hong Kong.....
Did you order from Morrs direct and have them shipped to HK airport?

Had the 1st problem of the wider F14 wheels! The F14s recommended fitment for the BMW F10s are 20X9 and 20X10.5 vs OEM 20X8.5/20X10. As such, the outter rim disk protrudes a little more than the OEM.
Consequence is that the rims are less protected by the tyres! So I had my first scratch on a side curb today. Painful. Getting it fixed now. May actually go and order a set of Morrs in 20X8.5 and 20X10, probably better suited for HK (or just me)
