Cup holder query

Hi all, new member having just purchased another used BMW.

I’ve just took my centre console off and removed front door key and about 47p that was stopping my cup holder cover retracting. When I was researching how to do this unnoticed some videos showing that when the cover was retracted the cup holders popped up an inch or so. Mine don’t do that and I’m wondering if they’re meant to or whether that was on the earlier/later model. Mine is a 2015 520d Msport.

Mine definitely doesn't do that.

Pre-LCI cars have a different design for the cupholder where it rises up when the cover is opened. But I think these have a tendency to break so they redesigned it for LCI cars (2014-2016) where the cupholders are fixed.
