Opening Trunk Lid with Comfort Access

With comfort access, is it possible to open the trunk by moving your foot under bumper? Owner's manual states it is, but I can't figure it out.

Do you have a 2012 equipped with comfort access (not keyless start)? It doesn't work 100% but works well enough that you should be able to get it to open if trying. . .

Yes, it's 2012 with comfort access. I have only tried this a few times, no luck yet. Guess I just need to figure out the correct motion.

Do like you are kicking a ball that is right below the bumper, under the license plate.

Works every time.

OK, can anyone tell me what's the exact definition of a 2012 model, since it's obviously not a model manufactured in 2012...

My car is manufactured end of April 2011, has CA but this doesn't work - or I cannot make it work. I wonder if having the tow hook underneath the boot has anything to do with it not working... or it's simply not a 2012 model.

Thanks!

2012 models are from 09/2011.

2012 Model Year = Actual marketed 2012 models.

If you have a 2012 car with CA, then you have this feature.

Apparently, in the new 4 Grand Coupe it is possible to close the boot lid with the same comfort access foot movement under the rear bumper that is used to open it.
In the F11 (probably also in the F10), this only works to open. Is there any chance of having this feature extended to F11/F10s equipped with comfort access?
IMO, being able to close hands free is as convenient as being able to open, for example when we take bags or boxes out of the boot and cannot use the hands to close the lid.

I have a 2014 - it works both to open and close. When closing, it'll beep as a security precaution.

Good. I will ask at my dealership if it is possible to have that in my 2013.
If not, do you think that it would be possible to add it via coding?

Thanks!

I'm honestly not sure if it can be coded. There are some guys on the forum who are experienced in it and should be able to comment.

I pretty much use the button after putting stuff into the trunk - hands are now free, which makes it simple to press the button. But when I'm taking out a bunch of things, and my hands are now completely full again, I use my foot to close the trunk - it's a real convenience... rather than trying to contort your body to reach the button that's now up in the air without dropping what you're holding, having to put it down (on wet, slushy pavement at the moment), etc.

Seems like BMW realized that your hands can be full both when opening AND closing the trunk and corrected it this year. I think, as usual, they were concerned about safety when it came to the trunk closing by a foot motion... hence adding little beeping noises (like a truck in a reverse) as the trunk closes via this mechanism.

Maybe you only load stuff into your car, and not off it. LOL
Yes, I guess I can keep twisting my body while I unload boxes and bags out of the car, put my right foot on the rear bumper for support, and reach for that little button.

I wasn't really intending to dispute the convenience of the option -- just weighing its value against the likely cost/complexity of a retrofit or coding. I guess if it were just coding, I might even go for it myself.

I am sure it can be retrofitted. Not sure how much, as the retrofit I believe is retrofitting Comfort Access all together. Not sure, but the guys at bimmer-tech are the absolute best at this type of thing. I've used them for a USB retrofit and highly recommend them.
