F10 Michelin tires options?
I got 2014 BMW 525i Xdrive, running 245*40R19 Goodyear Eagle runflat tires.
I hate the ride or the tires. Planning on changing. Thinking about going 245/45R19. Dealer told me they do not recommend that, even if I go square. "Will mess up with AWD sensors" I do not think it will mess up with AWD system, if I get same larger tire diameter all 4 wheels right? I can choose between: 1. New Michelin Pilot 3 plus A/S 245/45R19, Non-runflat, 2. Never used but 5 year old stored-in-garage Michelin Primacy MXM4 245/45R19 run-flat. Will these two vary a lot in performance? As I researched if tires garaged 5 years is not an issue. What do u guys think? Thanks! |

I really like the AS3+ series tire. You really cant go wrong. The chemical changes in a 5 year old tire would steer me towards selling those on CL. Your better off with some nice fresh AS3+ on your ride.

The downside is AS3+ does not have runflat in this size and it is hard to carry a spare... Is it much better that primacy?

If you want to stick with ROF, I have Brisgestone Driveguard's, 245/45/18 on our 2012 535i and, to me, ride pretty much like a non-ROF with the benefit of a ROF.
If all you're looking for is a cushier ride, I would look for someone that has 18's and wants to upgrade to the 19's and do a swap. |

I sold my hard-riding 19" wheels with Bridgestone RFs to a guy who wanted them for his E90 and bought 4 18" wheels and installed Michelin AS3+ tires. Great handling, smoother ride.

I haven't carried a spare in years. I'll call AAA for a tow. But these Michelins are pretty durable. They are quiet, fantastic in rain, great on dry roads too. If a flat worries you get a small compressor and a can of fix a flat. So you can make it to a tire shop. But this is my 3rd set of the AS3 family, you'd have to hit a horrible pothole to kill one them, and I'm running staggered low profiles.

Concur with Johnhva. If you're seeking a better ride, dump the 19" rims and go with the (less cool) 18" rims. Going down a wheel size and switching to non runflats will make a huge difference. A larger improvement than increasing the profile from 40 to 45. And since there not cool, used OE 18" wheels are plentiful and cheap.
Ditched my OE 19" wheels and runflat tires while they were virtually new and have no regrets. It's amazing what a compliant suspension exists on a 5 series sedan before those large wheels and runflats were added (mostly for looks). |

Change from 19 OEM tire size to 18 OEM size will be exactly the same for comfort as using oversized 19 tires. 245/40-19 -> 245/45-18 245/40-19 -> 245/45-19 The sidewall will be the same. It will also be cheaper just buying new 19 tires than buying both 18 wheels and tires. |

I bought four reconditioned Style 237 OEM 18x8 wheels. Also a set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ 245/45ZR18 on promo sale at Costco.

I get TPM malfunction when I put 255 40 19 on my 535i.. any ideas why??
The car does not have the premium TPMS for pressure monitoring but standard measures from the ABS sensors. Thank you much |
