Hey all,

Got sniped by a rock/pebble in the front, is this easily fixable? Don't mind taking into a shop but wanted to get the community's thoughts first. Thanks in advance...

It depends on the level of quality you're expecting.
A DIY like Dr. Colorchip or a professional job from a body shop.

Morbidly curious how much something like this would normally go for at a body shop, would they need to respray the whole hood and bumper?

A body shop will definitely want to respray. Check out some YouTubes on scratch repair. There are some good ones and then you can decide on which course you want to take.

Again, it will depend on your goal.
Done right, yes they will want to feather it out so the new paint blends into the old.
It can run several grand easy.
As suggested above, have a look at youtube and decide what is best for you.

way too deep! you'll have to have a body shop smooth that down back to the base. so you're pretty much respraying the whole front

I have a product called Langka paint chip repair as part of my car care arsenal and it works exactly as advertised. It can repair your paint chip to near perfect condition using BMW touch-up paint. If you want to try something at home that does not require re-painting anything, I'd recommend starting there. The technique you use to smooth out the repair takes a bit of practice and patience, but it does work well.

Thanks all. Went and got a couple estimates today which ranged from $1-3k. Once I get some time, I may try some of those products mentioned. In the case where I completely make it worse, no harm since the fix would be respraying the front end.

I've used Dr. Colorchip too. It works reasonably well for repairing the paint on a front bumper that has seen many small rock chips and gouges, but it only provides a very thin coating so the chips are still noticeable up close, but at least the color matches so the chips seem to disappear from a distance. The Langka product actually allows you to fill a deeper or larger chip / scratch with OEM touch-up paint so that it forms a bubble or blob that is raised with respect to the surrounding area. Once the touch-up paint is mostly but not fully cured, you then use their 'blob eliminator' product to smooth out the bump so that the touch-up paint blends right into the surrounding area with no visible chip or gouge.

I'll have to give them a try. I just had the front bumper repaired from rock chips and my selling dealer's crappy respray (the clear started flaking off!) and resprayed to the tune of just under $900. The bumper looks brand new! Bumper Doc did an excellent job!
