I used to plug my phone in the center arm rest USB and the Spotify app would display on the iDrive and Spotify would show the BMW safety disclaimer on the phone. That no longer happens when I plug the phone in...it only recognizes that there's a USB device and when I select that, song info shows in iDrive but music comes out through the phone.

There were no recent Spotify app updates either. Anyone else run into this issue?

Currently happening on my 2012 F10.

Yes, it is a spotify version problem. uninstall Spotify from your phone and then reinstall it. That should resolve it. It worked for me

Does the spotify work only if you have the plug-in original telephone modul in the middle armrest or you need to have the CarPlay option?

Thank you.

Unfortunately no. I don't have this issue at all when plugging the phone into the wife's X3, it automatically recognizes Spotify like my car used to. Still not quite sure what changed...

I've had it working in my car using a lighting to USB cable to the middle armrest since I got the car until a couple of weeks ago. My current workaround is plugging the phone to a cig charger by the cupholders and streaming through bluetooth. If I connect to USB to the middle armrest, the car sees the phone as a USB device but sound only comes out of the phone speakers.

I do connect over Bluetooth for my phone conversations, I have no options on the media Modes that can push Bluetooth. I only have cd/dvd/aux.. thats all :/ Is that a feature that is unlock-able or it is a distinguished module that allows music push over the bluetooth?

so what I have found to work with spotify is open the app and start playing a song before you plug it in via usb. if i open spotify and start playing music then plug it in I have no issue. also i will skip to the next track so the album art loads. usually if i just let it keep playing and it automatically goes to the next track after a song the album art is usually just a "?"

however my gf got a new iphone and got 6 months of apple music for free. i don't enjoy apple music but you can access your playlists. change playlists. search artists that you have saved. it's very convenient. i also have a 2012 528i

Not sure about this feature being unlockable or not. There is an option to disable music audio via bluetooth in the iDrive menus.

Tried various iterations of this. Album art and track length will display on the screen. I'm also able to use the skip buttons on the steering wheel to skip tracks but the sound still just comes out of the phone speakers. One thing I noticed is that I no longer get that BMW disclaimer in Spotify that usually pops up when the car recognizes the application

Select your phone under external devices then options. Make sure the audio box is selected. I don't remember... Have you deleted the Connected App and Spotify, restarted your phone and reloaded the apps? Sometimes that helps.

Phone went through a software update last night (12.3.1 I believe) and decided to give it another try. The car now recognizes Spotify and everything functions as before 🤷🏼*♂️
