Is this completely normal or would something be causing the idle to go up then back down? Only happens when cold after reaching a stop sign/light when I sit there. Doesnt happen when warm. Only thing I can think of is a method that the car uses to warm up quicker.

I've seen that for years on my 535xi. Usually it's accompanied with some torque converter grabs and releases too (leading to me wondering which is cause and which is effect).

Under extended warranty my dealer reportedly replaced all 6 injectors and plugs and it got a little better. The Internet seems to say that lots and lots of people have little oddities when the engine is cold. Then you read about the odd person where it was a Valvetronic actuator failure and $1k later "no problems".

It seems like you could throw tons of parts at it and still not fix it. Not sure if a "me too" is of any comfort. You could consider having the car scanned with ISTA to see if there's anything important logged.

I have this too and I already tried changing basic stuff. It doesnt do it as bad or as often as it did before. It usually very rarely happens with my car now.

I only changed coils and spark plugs. Also, check your air filter.

That might help. Come to think of it, I also updated my dme to latest version available. My mechanic did it for me.

How much did the software and dme updates run? I know I may need a transmission software update unless that comes in with the dme and software.

Everything gets updated along with dme such as tcu to seat module to anything you can think of. My mechanic charged me 50 bucks as a side job. But you probably looking at 200 to 300 bucks?
