On the stock air filters which way does air flow into the engine? Top to bottom of bottom to top?

I'm still waiting on elbows from the machine shop, he's been backed up from the unusually large amount of snow.

I have all other tubing/reducers/filters in hand. I'll install and drive it long enough to adapt, then it will be dyno/track time.

Is your intake different than the one that badblack is showing?

Same setup, we've worked together to try and get this done right this time. He can speak for himself, but both of us getting machined components back is what is limiting progress. I received the last part I needed (besides elbows) yesterday. So we're getting close to installation and testing.
No butt dynos will be used, as I'll use the same dyno I used before. Plus, I found a pretty good 1/8th mile track within 45 min of me. After all that we should have a pretty good idea of what we're working with. BB is working the same thing in parallel.

Installation complete. Testing in progress. Adaptations are going to require patience on my part.

So far so good.

Well, I broke a vacuum line. Tried to chase a phantom vacuum leak, lost a small piece of rubber via the PCV. So, I'm waiting for the car to crap it out the backend.

So, it was a crappy day. Back to stock until I can buy new vacuum lines.

I did successfully install and drive an F10 550i with a cold air intake before I started breaking stuff. Sounded great by the way.

I'm going to leave it up to BB for now, he's got the same setup in the works. This is promising, just needs some careful adjustment, which apparently isn't in my skill set.

Well, BB and I managed to think through potential problems. I think we came up with a solution. So elbows go back to the machine shop tomorrow.

It doesn't hurt that my wife found the rubber plug I thought my car ingested sitting in the driveway. So game on again!

I'm close (that's what she said), and I've already proven it will fit (that's what I said). I drove it, but had some issues with the MAF flange height. Dropped the elbows off with the machine shop to get the flanges cut down on Friday. I expect them back by mid-week, install this weekend to see if it solved my misfire problems.

The only thing I can come up with is the larger tubing doesn't sit up in the flange as much, so though it may have worked previously, the heating strip that the MAF uses to meter air was partially obscured, and that led to multiple MAF errors/misfires. I could keep the car running, but it hated me. I'm confident it's close to a working prototype now, and the changes will allow the car to adapt. After that we'll know if this is possible.

I start shift work this next week, working day shift, so install will likely need to wait until the weekend even if I get the elbows back mid week.
