Transmission issue

F10 ZF8HP70 transmission issues - Car is a 2012 550i... This transmission issue has really got me stumped. Trans was replaced by BMW West 2 years ago and has about 28k miles on it. No shifting issues whatsoever. Then one morning while pulling my garage I get a 420411 transmission code(trans malfunction on dash). I pull back in the garage, delete the code and restart the car and only drivetrain malfunction pops up and the trans trouble code is 421342. Car wont shift out of park to go to drive or reverse. So i clear the code and do a trans reset, now the transmission shifts to drives and reverse and as soon as I hit park, i get a drivetrain malfunction 421342 code and no drive or reverse again until i clear the code and reset the transmission and then it'll let me select drive and reverse. Im getting no Pcodes or DME codes only EGS Trans codes. What could be going on?

Out of curiosity, why are you just clearing the codes without any diagnosis? Those codes don't pop up for fun, going "ah I'm sure it's okay, just clear it and drive" seems like a surefire way of damaging your transmission.

Might be your output speed sensor going bad, but to be honest just get it to a dealer ASAP.

Sounds like something with the parking pawl since you're reporting errors when coming in or out of Park.

Any chance you load the transmission when you park?

Im going to visually inspect trans oil level and harness connector today when I get off. This morning I cranked it up in park and let it warm up, didnt touch the shifter at all. No codes until it got to engine operating temp and it popped that 421342 code (Position specification: Undesired power transmission in neutral detected). I cleared it, I put the trans in drive and just held the brake (its in the garage), no codes. I put in reverse and held the brake, no codes. I manually go through the gears while sitting in one spot, it only lets me selected 1 and 2. If I shift to 3-4-5-6-7 or 8 it automatically takes me back to 2 with no codes. then I put it in neutral and 421342 code pops on.

Is it coincidental that it's been 2 yrs + 28K miles on a part that carries a 2 yr warranty? Not sure why you aren't pounding BMW West's door down....unless you were expected 24 months of life from your new transmission...

Definitely coincidence. No one is able to design a part that fails in 2 years + X day to avoid warranty lol

I think what it was, was that my turbo auxillary pump had gone out and was throwing a 20A502 open circuit short to ground code, which doesnt show on my Generic P Code scanner. And after about a maybe a week and half I noticed I wasnt hearing my coolant running after the car was shutoff so I hooked up my bmw specific scanner and that code was there. So i ordered another pump but continued to drive it with the code. I think over the course of 2.5 weeks and 2mile commutes to work and the 1week of just sitting waiting for waterpumps and new radiator hoses, the battery was drained and weak. I had a buddy tell me that an open circuit will drain a battery fast. In short, I trickle charged it for 2 nights and everything is fine now. drives normal.
