Hi everyone,

Haven't been on here in a very long time. Been busy with life work and life.

Just curious who have the highest mileage on a F10 with N55 engine? It need to have original engine to count. I average 50K miles a year on my daily commute car. Today, I hit 250K on my car. I did have to replace a few things due to normal wear and tear but it is expected due to higher mileage.

Vehicle: 2014 535i xDrive
Miles: 250K

Beside normal maintenance, I haven't had issues except the transfer case actuator. This vehicle have been pretty solid so far.

Wow! Impressive. Highest mileage N55 F10 I’ve seen. There is another thread about highest mileage F10’s but I believe you take the trophy

Highest I've seen even with hours of googling. Thats good to hear a n55 lasted 250k. Have you had timing chain checked out or chain tensioners?? I'm sitting on 104k lmao

I just saw a 2014 535xi with 250k for sale recently, it was sliver. I'm at 142k. Still feels strong.

I change oil every 10K miles myself no matter what the computer tells me. My first oil change wasn't required until 32K miles according to the car's computer. S


Things I do before I am stranded on the the road:

Oil change - every 10K
Coolant flush - every 100k
Radiator hose - every 100K
Water pump & thermostat at 200K
Supertine belt - every 100K
Brake Flush - once a year
Diff flush - every 100K
Transmission flush - every 100K
Front and Rear Brakes - only once at 220K
Coil packs - every 100K
Fuel injectors - every 100K
High pressure fuel pump - every 100K
Wipers - every 6mo

Things I had to replace because it failed on me:

Battery
Valve cover gasket
Oil filter housing gasket
Transfer case actuator
Upper control arm


Things that got damaged due to road hazard

CV Boot
Left and right fender liners
Windshield
Lots of rock chips

I wonder when did they they purchased it. I got mines in December 2014. I only drive this vehicle on weekdays.

Sounds like you do a lot of highway driving if your brakes are lasting that long( I do as well). I’m shocked your water pump &T stat lasted 200k. Thank you for sharing, hopefully our cars can last as long as yours

Surprised the starter hasn't went yet. Might want to change that if you plan on keeping the car. I just did my water pump and thermostat around 120k miles. Good to see very little maintenance done. As I've noticed these f series cars are much more reliable than predecessors. I do oil every 5000 myself. Oil is lifeblood to an engine. Nice to see you were able to do every 10000. I do mostly highway also.

Nevermind about the starter. Just saw your my is 2014. Different from my 2011

I disable A/S/S to prolong my starter’s life. Not worth the fuel savings to me. Not trying to get into an oil discussion on this thread but cool to see 10k intervals made it this far with mostly highways driving.

I also agree. The F series are much better overall, the E series had so many electrical headaches.

I drive 144 miles each way and both of my houses are 5 mins from the highway so it barely get used

I plan to keep it for another year or two. I was going to do 5K oil intervals but they oil wasn't that dark at 10K so I decided to keep it at 10K. It doesn't hurt to do it earlier. I guess since I'm cruising on the highway at low RPMs, its less wear and tear than a lot of city driving and lots of stop and go

The dealer I purchased it from offered to code it where it would remember last setting for A/S/S. It doesn't matter too much for me since I drive mainly in the hwy.

I have an E39 and E61 as well. E39 is rock solid. E61 is a high maintenance girlfriend

I hardly feel qualified to respond since I have only had my 2011 535i for about 1.5 months or so, but it is a high mileage vehicle at 248,000 or so KM (about 154,000 miles). While I don't have the full history on the vehicle's maintenance, I can tell you that the timing chain was replaced in September of last year (2019) by BMW, as it hard a problem for previous owner. Further, the water pump was replaced in fall of 2018 - not sure if it was preventative or whether it failed - either way, the vehicle was around 237,000 KM or 147,000 miles.

Within the past month, the following has been replaced - some of it due to problems, some of it as preventative.

-valve cover
-boost pressure selenoid
-drive belt
-coil packs
-sparkplugs
-engine oil
-brakes and tires
-differential fluid
-battery (original battery was in there, lasted 10 years!)

I also changed out the ugly stock small square radio display screen with an android head unit with apple car play. Also install rear backup camera. Those things are some of the best upgrades I have done with any car. It was not done due to problems, but because the stock screen was so ugly. And there was no nav on it or camera.

I am trying to determine whether it is worthwhile to change the transmission fluid. I am assuming it has never been changed, since I don't have the history, but my indie mechanic says BMW says it is lifetime...but if it hasn't been changed not sure if it is a good idea at this point

The car is in physically great condition, and I hope to get a few years out of it.

I would recommend replacing the transmission fluid soon. Oil will degrade over time no matter what. Old oil can cause the value body to go bad and that will be an expensive repair.

I assure you, this was not intentional. I just bought the car and I left it in accessory mode one evening and it ran down the battery. After it got boosted, some wonky stuff was happening and comfort access was disabled, so I had the battery changed and registered with another OEM BMW battery. The fact that I had a battery that was 10 years is by no means an endorsement that anyone should try this. Had I known this battery was that old when I bought it, I would have changed it regardless if it was problematic or not.

I replaced my tranny fluid at 120k miles. I have some jerk and bang issues. They are intermittent and not too alarming. Most of the time the car is very smooth. And there is no slippage. At 120 it was way over due. The fluid change helped a bit. And I plan On doing it again soon just to keep flushing it. It was a bit tedious and took some time. That was with doing the transmission pan/filter.

Yea, I would recommend another drain and fill if it wasn't a system flush.

Thanks Hoa for the recommendation for the fluid and filter. So do you all think at this insane mileage of 248,000 kilometers or 155,000 miles, that it's not too late to change the tranny fluid and filter? Some comments I have seen say that if it is not changed by now, changing it may cause problems....I don't know if that's true or not, but I don't want to screw up my car (though if the tranny fluid wasn't changed ever and it is on its way to being kaput, it may not make a difference). I have used my indie mechanic for 14 years (mostly working on Japanese cars), and he has never steered me wrong. I just got this car, and unfortunately do not know the history...wonder if I call the BMW dealership they will be able to tell me anything without identifying the previous owner...

It may cause the vehicle to start slipping if the damage have already been done. New fluid makes it too slippery. I would recommend a drain and fill first. Just to see how it reacts. If it goes well, then drop the pan and replace the filter.
