520D - first run out -50 mpg

Well I've had my 520D for a couple of weeks, but due to my scheduled only just managed to get my first decent run out, 300 mile round trip down to Poole...and after much concentration I got 50mpg out of her, which means at £1.15.9 per ltr that when I claim my punitive 11p per mile I'm no longer subsidising the company...next stop 55mpg and by this time next year I'll be a millionaire....and sick of free wheeling downhill............

UK: If it's your own car and not a company car I think you can claim the upper limit tax back up to 40p/mile for the first 10K and then up to 25p/mile for any more. If it is a company car you can only claim the 11p/mile back.. if the company gives you more than that you would have to pay the tax back to the tax man!
There is nothing as certain as Tax and Death.

Completely agree Schmoolie....and that's why company car drivers love the 520D and the tax man hates it...

Yup,, My tax has actually reduced by changing from the E60 520D to the F10 520D and with all the extra goodies, better mileage and 184hp as well.. I just predict that every other car on the road will be a 520D in time and I wont be able to drive around with a sophisticated air of superiority anymore. Joking.

You can leave the more exclusive 'big engine models' to us guys who don't have to look at the tax implications when buying.

The 520d certainly makes sense for tax purposes, just that the real fun of 6-pots and real torque costs a bit more money.

Plus there was a smile and wink, sorry if I offend. Please take my 'off the cuff' comment in context.
