When you say "skip". Do you mean like a felt misfire? But rpm's don't fluctuate? A lot of n55 have this issue. I myself have it. At idle i can feel this slight miss every couple of revolutions. Read it could very well be injectors. Could also be motor mounts, coils, plugs, but you already did those.

Glad you got those threads sorted. Looked a little scary

Not sure I saw this in your previous posts, but if you are going to replace your injectors, replace your fuel filter first.....

While you are in your engine, how's the rest of the engine look? Not many folks post what their N55 looks like with 100K miles on them, so thanks for posting.

Fuel filter? It is part of the fuel pump. I just replaced my fuel pump with a Walbro 450. Filter is just a mesh screen that snaps over the fuel pump intake. Was some debris in the tank and stuck to the filter. But nothing that could cause this "skip". I posted pictures of the debris in a "fuel pump upgrade" thread. Have to find it. As for pics of an engine with more than 100k...

Isn't the fuel filter built into the low pressure fuel pump? If so the dealer is doing that recall on Thursday along with the vanos bolts. I hope I get a new oil pan gasket out of it and this car will be 100%.

It could be that. This is my first turbo BMW so I am still getting use to the added complexity. I used 1/2 my tank of fuel with the red line fuel cleaner in it, once it is all gone it might improve.

Filter is part of the lpfp. And being a turbo car doesn't necessarily complicate it. Being Bmw over complicates it. I've used chevron Techron a couple of times with no improvement. (I'm not a big fan of additives) I've also changed my plugs when I first got the car. Used ngk from fcp euro. I have not done my coils which are due. But I suspect it to be the injectors. But don't really want to roll dice on $600 for them. As it doesn't bother me that much. Car still performs very well.

The shop that was selling the car ran it out of gas and clogged injectors 1 and 2. The PO footed the bill for two new injectors and I think doing the other four now is worth the extra $400. I am not sure if he coded in the two new ones so I hope I can see the numbers of the two new ones while still in the engine.

I looked in the oil cap of my engine before I bought it looked clean. I Just snapped a photo and I can kinda see some sludge with a closer look.

When I replaced the lpfp I disconnected the fuel line and ran the engine until it shut off. Isn't that kinda the same thing as running out of fuel? No issues restarting. As it started right up afterwards. First time I hear that can damage injectors.

When you run the car out of fuel it takes the junk in the bottom of your gas tank and it clogs the injectors.

But isn't that what the filter is there for? I've worked on a few gas tanks. Never saw any dirt or debris in any other make than Bmw. I recently did my e39 fuel pump as well. It's 18 years old. Not sure if it was ever replaced in its lifetime but I heard some buzzing from it so figured better safe that sorry. And it was only $30. A few weeks prior I did the f10. Both tanks had debris in the tank. So I used a wet vac to clean then out and fill new fuel. But from chevy to Toyota. Never seen debris in the tank like Bmw.

Fuel injectors are in and coded. At first it ran like shit and then I noticed three of my brand new coils popped out. I though delphi was the best coil you can buy?

I hope FCP can overnight coil packs so I can go to the dealer on Thursday for my recalls.

I also heard a bit of a whine from I belive the steering rack and I found out the fluid was low and looked like this:

I turkey bastered all of the fluid out but I didn't have enough chf 11s to fill it up all the way. Tomorrow I will need to get more fluid. I did two full pulls and it feels a bit faster now but something to me still feels off about the engine. When I put my hand on the valve cover it doesn't feel as smooth as a proper BMW engine should feel like. IDK, tomorrow is oil filter housing gasket day.

Was referring to the item below (courtesy of ECS)...not saying you have to replace it either...just suggesting since it is a "filter"....the one on the pump pickup is nothing more than a screen....and before I get hammered, the part number is for reference, and the P/N for your BMW F10 N55 might be different...but this is the one for my LCI....

I don't fuck around with maintenance.

Anyway after driving the car around for a bit the engine sounds mint and it rips hard. I am very please with the stock power increase from my N52 cars. I did some coding for auto folding mirrors, unlock all doors with key out, and some more NBT Evo stuff. Currently I am rocking the CIC controller and a F30 display with the evo. I also found a nice easter egg in form of a cracked sun visor mirror. Normally I catch stuff like that when I look at cars before I buy them.

Today was OFHG day and it turned into a shit show. The oil filter canister was on there so tight it broke my wrench. The leak was worse than expected and took forever to clean up. The coolant in the car looks like a dirty green and I want to flush it but I have no idea how to drain it. The OFHG itself went in good and so did the mickey mouse flange. I am pretty sure I snapped the bottom bolt on the oil cooler and will probably have to extract it in a few weeks. I dumped some oil into the assembled oil filter housing and then did a oil change. The oil that was in there was pretty nasty. I want to do another oil change in about 1k miles. Once assembled I did the TIS oil priming by cranking the engine over without the injectors plugged in. The first start went bas as the car shut of in a few seconds. My heart sank as I though I seized the engine like some of the early N55 owners had happen after doing this repair. Turns out I forgot to bolt on the intake manifold and the fuel rail sensor. Once the manifold was bolted up the car run fan but I heard a loud screeching sound. I immediately turned the engine off. I think it is the belt covered in coolant but I am taking a break now and will replace the belt later tonight.

Some o ring came out of the coolant hose that is way too big. I put the hose on without it but I feel like I am missing something. Anyone know were is goes?

I did not snap a bolt, FCP Euro sent me the wrong kit. Now my car is disabled in the middle of my driveway with a pierced oil filter housing.

I used an S class attached to jumper cables to power the car during the flash.

When the car was under it's own steam the alternator was peaking at over 15v. The battery in the car looks original! People complain about the IBS system but it made the battery last 9 years. I ordered a Bosch AGM battery for $175 with tax and core charge.

Next thing I tackled was starting to get my nbt evo in the car. I bought a F10 Carsystems NBT adapter with most a while back for a hefty sum of $500 USD. I always had good luck with their stuff but their service kinda sucks. The included most cable that needs to go from the ZGW to the box was too short. Thankfully I had a jumbo most cable sitting around and the excess fit in the little radio cubby.

The evo is powered up but I still need to wire in the ATM for telematics. That is my e90 nbt screen. The touch screen order got canceled but I found a none touch screen for $45 shipped.

The rear seats are a bit heavy and were difficult to get out of the car.

The door sill trim was on there really good. It made it difficult to run the atm wires to the evo. The build quality on this thing is much better than my E90s.

I quickly rigged up the wiring and I got connected drive weather to load up!

I then pulled the center console trim and found that the key antenna was not even plugged in and that there is a screw missing. This solved my key issue!

I work on the car next.

The tools to do the spark plugs and injectors come in next week and I have an appointment at the dealer to get the fuel pump and OFHG recalls done. The lady on the phone didn't want my vehicle info so I am not sure if they stock all of the recall parts or if she just didn't care. Something tells me I am going to have a loaner for a few extra days while they wait for parts.
What recalls are you referring to exactly? I was unaware of any recalls for the ofhg.

Btw great work so far and nice write ups. Sorry to hear about your internship. Are you by chance in the engineering field?

I am a business management major, but the worlds most "techy" business management major. I was mistaken it is the Vanos bolt recall, not the OFHG. I get asked if I am in a technology or engineering major a few times a month.

Honestly I'd say don't do it, get a good set of mufflers if you're going catless. It's pretty damn loud, esp the cold start. I don't drive mine but 1-2 times a month now so it doesn't bother me

The shop van method for a coolant drain was effective. I believe I got most of the old green coolant out. I think in a thousand miles I will do another coolant drain. All the parts to fix FCP Euro's fuck up are on there way. I have not heard anything from them yet.

Update: I called FCP euro and they are not footing the bill for a new OFH. They just lost a good customer.

Haha, a lot of engineers on these boards, especially the ones that take on these types of projects.

Sucks to hear, did they provide any rationale? Seems out of character for them I've always heard great things about their customer service.

I appreciate the honesty. Although the setup sounds good in video, I do NOT want to experience any more drone. Been there, done that. I would probably be expecting a lot of that with the muffler delete. Will prob keep the OEM exhaust and explore options once the DP is installed.

I think I had Omar on the phone. He seemed a bit out of it but eventually he approved a refund for the gasket kit and overnighted me new oil. He said he could not reimburse me for the new housing. I have had FCP Euro make things right for their mistakes before and have spent thousands with them over almost five years. Just recently they sent me a full box of tensioners and idlers when I ordered just one. Being a good guy I mailed them back to them. To add salt in the wound I paid $50 for overnight shipping with ECS and they didn't mail out my new oil filter housing! Over the past two weeks everything in my life keeps going to shit.

Man I miss BMW of Morristown parts so much. They always had the best prices and I never had an issue with them. I ordered my iCOM from them and thousands in CIC parts. About a year ago they took their parts website down. I am going to call them tomorrow and see if they have one in stock and I will make the three hour round trip for it.

Update: ECS didn't ship it out my OFH and I bit the bullet and I am paying $500 at my dealership to have it here by 1:30pm. FCP got my oil to me by 8:00 AM and they send me a FCP Euro hat. It looks like FCP fixed their listing issue for the gasket kit:
