Waxy Film on Windshield after Detailing

Dealer detailed my car, but note picture attached...

When I went to fill up at a gas station after picking it up, I tried to squeegee the windshield, as there were streaks on it, but the glass wouldn't clear, as it now has a waxy film to it. I've since tried to clean it with rubbing alcohol and Windex, but neither has worked!? Anyone know what the waxy film might be or how I can go about removing it!?

Never had this problem before. :|

Perhaps some kind of rain repellent like rain-x? I've had detail shops apply it to my windshield in the past only to cause major streaking. I had to wash it off - but it took several days to really break down. I'm not sure how rubbing alcohol or windex would work, but if it's some kind of water repellent, I can attest to the fact that they DON'T wash off easily from my experience.

Argh; crazy; hard to see, but this has caused MAJOR streaking (glaring in sun).

70% Iso alcohol works wonders for things such as these. I use it to remove wax residue from trim and dried compound from paint ect after I detail.

That's what I thought, which is what I tried, but no go.

washing up liquid worth a try?

I use rain-x myself and never found it streaky.

I've only found rain-x to be streaky one time - and I think in this instance it was over-applied by the detail shop.

I used to use Rain-X liquid but I stopped when I switched to Rain-X windshield washer. It does the same job without the work and possible streaks.
Regarding the Rain-X liquid, I did find that it had to be polished with a dry cloth to be effective and not streaky. To the OP, if it was Rain-X it will wear off on its own. The more rain, the quicker it disappears. Its also possible its not Rain-X if its waxy as you say. I don't recall the liquid ever being waxy.
Good luck with your quest.

Thanks, gentlemen, but I don't believe it's Rain-X, it's very waxy; maybe they waxed my windshield!? All other windows fine, however.

Try to claybar your windshield and see if that takes it off.

If not try a solution of Dawn dish soap in spray bottle, but don't get any on your paint - it'll strip the wax right off. Work it on the windshield with a rag or sponge then rinse off with copious amounts of water and dry it with a cotton towel that doesn't have any fabric softener on it.

Brought car back to dealer; said didn’t know what it was; took it to the back; brought it out; whatever it was, was removed; windshield now looks great. Asked what they used to remove it; said dish washing detergent. Crazy rubbing alcohol didn’t do the trick!? Thanks everyone!

Dawn dish soap is badass - just don't get it on your paint.

Not sure what to say!?

Noticed the attached in addition to the windshield problem shortly after picking up my car from being 'detailed'.

Unfortunately, forgot to mention the attached when I brought the car back to fix the windshield, as I've been driving around with windows down for about a week and half to air out the noxious air freshener smell applied to the interior.

Now that I'm done airing out the car and it's beyond humid out, I've been leaving the windows up, and the following came to mind again! So I tried dishwashing detergent, but it's not coming off!?

Stopped by the dealer, detailer tried a few different products, none of which worked, showed the manager, tried Ajax, which didn't work either. He said when I get home to try vinegar and/or lemon juice and that if both don't work, he'll replace the window!? When you scratch the affected area with a finger nail it makes a squeaking / etching sound that's not made on other parts of the glass; manager also tried a razor, which didn't do anything.

I can't believe it, what can this be? I brought it to a body shop after and they said it may be either concrete, limestone or tree sap, but it certainly doesn't look like tree sap to me!?

Thoughts as to what this may be!? It's along part of the lower edge of the driver's door. No other windows appear to have same. Definitely on the outside, not inside. Nice of the dealer to offer a new window without hassle, but would need to be re-tinted (which they'll do as well), but who knows if the tint will match (tints were done three years ago at my selling dealer and I have no clue what the brand / model of tint used, doubt they'd know either).

Btw, that's the reflection of another car next to mine.

Hope the vinegar and/or lemon juice works! Argh!!!

Wow...

SOMETHING will likely work... just a matter of what. I know this may sound stupid, too, but try a Magic Eraser (extra strength). Whatever they put in that thing is STRONG - it's been known to remove tar from vinyl siding and other such feats.

Just crazy. I've had a few bad experiences with detailing shops... and I HATE when they try to do things like freshen an interior. A BMW interior that smells like fresh leather needs no freshening!

Yes, I was very displeased to find my car smelling like a recently cleaned public restroom.

Nevertheless, the key to keeping the new car smell is to always keep a newspaper in your car and, ironically, to often drive with the windows down.

Anyway, is this what you're referring to(?):
