F10 N20 Mst Air intake sound

Mst intake sound

Above is a Youtube short of my F10 N20 with the MST air intake kit.

Wonder why mine sounded so hollow and high pitched and only 2k rpm. Sounded like a leak?

Other mods:
1) Stage 1 hybrid turbo
2) Bar, plate Fmic
3) Catless downpipe
4) Ftp Charge pipe, boost and turbo inlet pipe

Or is it because the entire intake pipings are now aluminium (Ftp turbo inlet) so it sounded like that which is quite annoying

Did your MST intake rub on the coolant lines as well?

Sounds pretty normal. BMW insulates and adds a ton of bs to cut sounds down and you replaced every bit of those items. My N55 is similar at part throttle

Which coolant lines you are referring to? They seems ok to me.

Glad to hear that ! I guess the hybrid turbo makes it even louder

So on my car due to the air filter size, it pushes against the metal heat shield. Then the heat shield need the intake feed plastic duct so it can only fit two ways.

First way the heat shield rubs against the upper radiator hose (attached a pic).

Second way if you rotate the heat shield, it rubs against some lower and small coolant lines.

Upon checking, mine rubs against that coolant line too. Is that the cause of the sound?

I wedged the air box a bit and it did get to a position where it did not rub that coolant line. Not sure the airbox will move back to its original positio during driving. Will check further

The hollow sound is more likely your entire intake tract is aluminum now like other poster said.

The rubbing on coolant hose you should monitor, worst case it might rip the rubber hose. Since I got my kit very cheap I cut off the entire heat shield corner.

Thanks for the heads up ! I just replaced that exact coolant line as it leaked when I still have the original airbox on. Don't want to replace it again due to this.
