only on cold start, starts then dies

Been chasing this issue for a couple weeks now and i have been having the issue of when it’s cold (-5°c or more) the car starts up and dies immediately afterwards. if i start it again and hold the rpm at 1500ish it stays on and doesn’t come back at all untill the next time it does a cold start. Also been getting the code 101F01 intermittently but that’s the only code. I’ve replaced map and maf sensors, cleaned and inspected the throttle body, new coils and plugs and smoke tested with no help.

Is there something that controls how the car starts on cold start?

thanks

Sounds like you got the air leaks checked out especially with a smoke test, I've been reading other forums about fuel related issues and with rough idle and or rough cold starts.

seems like it’s okay since it is fine after the initial start up cause it’s completely fine other than cold start.

it’s fine after starting and driving and then restarting the car which is why it’s so odd.

If you got time, when possible, perhaps inspect the intake valves, I did a cleaning of the valves using CRC intake valve cleaner, not the best and most thorough method, it fixed a small idle fluctuation I had during start up, then after, fresh oil and a nice Italian tune-up after warm up. Cleaned and burned off some gunk. Process of eliminating the variables to pinpoint the exact issue.

Keep it in mind, grain of salt because there was a member who went through a lot of diagnosing, a different issue of course, and overlooked the LPFP and also stated he believed it was not the issue, and once he replaced it, he hasn't been seen on the forum since, lol. just a heads up to keep in mind. We all here want to assist you in getting your Bimmer tip top. I know I personally do, A simple test to get it out of mind, if possible, Don't want you to go in circles.
