Hi all hoping to get some help here,

I have a 2015 550i with some modifications, downpipes cold air intake, custom exhaust and the burger motorsports jb4. I just got done fitting f10 m5 exhaust manifolds and turbos on it and it runs, but not great. Currently I’m running with the factory map set on the jb4. The air fuel ratio bounces around a lot and I’m getting codes for o2 sensor before cat reversed. I assume that is due to the exhaust manifold design that crosses banks. I’m currently trying to find wiring diagrams of the s63tu and N63tu to better understand the o2 sensor circuit, and figure out if that is the issue. My questions are can my dmes can be tuned so that the engine runs right with the m5 parts? Do I have more custom work to do in order to get it running right, or will it ever run right?

Thanks,
Kyle

Update, just got an email back with some good info.

Kyle

The issue is the sensors are set up to read from specific cylinders

With the F10 M5 manifolds, it makes it so that some cylinders are the wrong cylinders for each o2 sensor. The AFR jumps around because the ECU's try to making changes but it gives the opposite effect.

We have never attempted to put the F10 manifolds on a N63 engine. While it may be possible to find and change the settings in the ECU's we have not attempted it and do not know for sure if it is or is not possible.

There is nothing you can do mechanically that will make it work right aside from going back to the N63 manifold. It is all software settings inside the ECU programming.

Does anyone think they might have an idea whether or not this is possible? I’m really hoping to not have to go back to stock :/

Does anyone have bmw wiring diagrams? Looking for s63tu and N63tu o2 sensor circuits??

This was a common mod for my X5M (S63) to swap in the M5 turbos and exhaust manifolds (S63TU). The S63TU has twin scroll turbos. The N63TU/S63 does not use twin scroll turbos, and has an entirely different intake setup and exhaust setup. The S63TU does not use MAF sensors and uses an array of sensors to calculate air flow as the MAF reduces airflow by nearly 1/3.

Basically I've never seen this swap done without reprogramming. The engines have a lot of simularities, but there are a lot of differences between the S63TU turbos and N63TU turbos.

I read through a couple threads on that mod, it seemed like people were able to get them running right with a tune, but they also were both cross bank manifolds. Because I have switched from two separate banks to the manifolds crossing banks people are theorizing the o2 readings will be off. I have spoken with a local tuner in San Jose who said he will have to license the dme and log it, then see if he can make the necessary changes to the dme logic as far as o2 sensors go. I’m sure there will need to be changes made for the larger twin scroll turbos.

It is interesting because it will run, drive and sometimes air fuel ratio evens out for a bit, like it’s trying to adapt.

For anyone else interested in this mod, the fitment worked out pretty well. The manifolds fit right on, the turbos bolted right up to the downpipes. Just needed to move the vacuum reservoir, adjust some heat shields, ccv, coolant lines and intake pipes.

How has the sound changed with these manifolds installed vs the oem. The alpina b8 uses the s63 components( turbos/ manifold) wih the m850gc motor

It has a lot more of an exotic sound to it. I am also running a single exhaust, so that contributes to the sound as well. I wanted dual tips on the driver side like all the 550i’s in the past.

You got the idle and such sorted?

I'm getting ready to do this and my tuner should be able to fix the o2 sensor readings. If you need an expert to help out, dm me.

Hi,

Did you got the tune sorted out? I’m kind of on the same boat, but for me it will probably be even more difficult because I got the 2012 pre-lci version with the single MSD85 dme.

Really need some help with this….
