Andream CarPlay Adaptor

Hi all,
Has anyone had any experience with the CarPlay adaptor in the link below.

Seems cheaper than others at the moment.

I've tried two similar to this one. The first one didn't have a Wifi antenna and would consistently lose connection to the phone. The second had a WiFi antenna and was good. But, I never connected it via aux because the sound quality was poor. I kept it connected via original Bluetooth and connected it to CarPlay as well. Just had the sound output to be through original Bluetooth and this also allows you to use the cars original mic. I like it so far, and that's a good price because the one I purchased was a lot more than that off eBay. Just make sure you set up the settings correctly to utilize your cars original reverse camera if you have it

Hello Marmite
Thanks for your reply, sounds like a wireless CarPlay adaptor is the one to go for. Thanks for the heads up with the AUX connection.

Do you mind telling me which model you purchased? As I would prefer to go for one that's been tested before.

Thanks for your time.

I bought this off eBay and just realized it's cheaper on AliExpress. I bought the joyeauto one, which is this one, and have had really good experience with it. Very quick, and not laggy like the first one I tried.

I finally received my Andream unit today. I installed it pretty easily once I figured out how to remove the glovebox so I could stash the box. Wired and wireless Android Auto work great. Zero instructions were included but it’s pretty straight forward and they have a video on the product page on AliExpress. I’ve only played with it for about 10 minutes. Tomorrow’s commute will be my first real test.

System is pretty awesome. Wireless Android Auto is awesome. The Equalizer function is also great since bass and treble was all I had before. So far, so good.

You have to go in to developer mode on Android Auto and enable wireless. Google the actual instructions. I have a One Plus 6T that isn't listed and it works fine.

How is the audio quality? Do you just leave the phone connected via BT to the car?

I turned off the cars BT. Audio quality is good. The built in EQ is a nice feature as well. Unit is still working great.

Just a heads up with the Andream seller. They're refusing to ship to the United States, presumably because the super-economy shipping services aren't shipping internationally and only large/expensive companies like DHL are. He just held on to my money for a week and a half until Aliexpress's automated refund kicked in, seems super sketchy. Doesn't inform you at all that he isn't going to ship it. Bought it from someone else who ships via DHL, and he shipped it within 3 days.

Who did you buy it from that ships DHL? Also, is this a good replacement if your cars Bluetooth isn’t working?

Carlinkit Direct Store was the person I bought it from. It's a good replacement, since the box puts out sound via the aux (not the aux in your center console, it uses the actual aux line). I personally am having trouble with call quality, the person I'm calling tends to hear an echo of their own voice. Need to play around with the box's mic input settings.

Or are you guys saying the carplay app will be bluetooth through the head unit and everythign else will have to be through aux? Please let me know thank you.
I believe you need BMW APPS (option 6NR) to stream Bluetooth from your phone. Bluetooth plays through all of the speakers. Carplay isn't supported in NBT or CIC. You would need the newer iterations of NBT. Bimmertech has an adapter.

Resurrecting an old thread for anyone that might be interested in getting carplay added to their 2014-2016 F10 in Los Angeles. I just had CarPlayTech come out and install their own box (no idea what model they use). Owner was super nice and didn't mind that I was essentially hovering over him during the install since he needed my key and my shared garage isn't exactly close to our condo unit. Took him about 1.5-2hrs to do the install, but he did a clean job and I LOOOOOOOOOOVE having wireless carplay. Using the steering wheel scroll or the iDrive controller isn't as nice as having a touchscreen like on my wife's XC90, but it's easy to get used to.

Installed this yesterday (andream) and very impressed so far just yet to add the camera.

Only question is after holding menu for 2 seconds it takes about 20 seconds to get to the screen where you choose carpkay or android auto.

My question is:
1.should this take about 20 seconds to boot the andream box up?
2.any way for it to choose android by default each time?

Thanks

B

Based on the photos, they're just installing the andream/carlinkt kits.

Is there a way for me to tell which model I have through any menus?

Looks like I have Andream and am maybe one version behind. Should I update the software if I'm not having problems?

Yup you have andream. If you're having issues, update, or try the custom firmware
