Rear swivel dome light

Just curious, was thinking about buying one of these to change into my normal rear dome light. These came on the 6 series and also some of the newer 5 series. Is the only point of them the directed light output?

I think the light output is lower on these but yes the directional adjustment is cool. They def look cool.
