Has anyone had their N63 engine replaced yet related to the class action suit? If so can you elaborate on cost and how the car is running since the replacement? Oil consumption?

There is a recall for the motors in which dealer will replace?

I recently installed a new motor in my 550xi. Dealer wanted $5,500 for the installation not including the motor.

- Dealer install $5,500
- New motor from dealer $3,600
- New Turbos from dealer $849

I have been driving with the new motor for about 150 miles - runs like a dream and pulls like a freight train. At the rate I drive it may be a while before its broken in so to speak but so far Im happy.

Anyone with N63 engine can get reimbursed or new engine replacement at various percentage based on mileage. What year and how many miles did your car have prior to replacement?

2012 550 xdrive - had just over 127,000 when the motor killed itself; Prior owner noted it was burning oil.

Motors are back ordered until atleast January. So you will not find the answer you are looking for quite yet.

I recently posted about the whole N63 lawsuit and the case with my 550i the first step to getting on this list would be to take it to your dealer let them know about your oil consumption and they will run tests (will take about 2-3 days) to determine wether it's your turbo seals which is cheaper in ways or your valve seals which is why bmw is replacing the engines after that they will let you know what percentage they are willing to cover etc

So if I understand this correctly, if BMW does find that the engine is consuming oil after they run the 2-3 day test, will BMW replace for instance the oil return line cover and turbo seals for free if those are the sources of the leak due to the recent class action suit decision?

Correct, the warranty is this - on N63 it was 120k its now 131k for N63 engines for the valve seals. If its the valve seals leaking they will repair no charge if under 131k. Mine took 1 month however bmw said because my timing chain guides did not look good not to reinstall the engine they will send a new engine to install, I have 113k on mine soon to be zero....

I have a similar story... My 550xi is at the dealer for the oil consumption test - right away the advisor knew my vehicle was burning oil and said it’s a waste of time going through this process. A week later I received a call and my car failed the test, and the timing chain was bad. BMW North America told him to replace my engine and I’ll be getting it back in February, or March. I think BMW North America has realized they’re wasting more money paying the dealerships to do patch up work and have it fail again - just to end up replacing the short block anyway.

does BMW NA make the ultimate decision to replace the engine? I just dropped off my 12' 550i for valve stem seals repair (covered by dealer). My 550 has 60k miles... i am just not sure what qualifies for valve stem seal repairs vs engine replacement.

In my case it failed the first oil consumption test. When the diagnosis was completed it was determined and approved that the turbos and valve guides were to be replaced. My car was burning about a quart of oil every 500 miles and I was getting that tell tail puff of blue smoke when idling for more then 15mins. My 11 550i had about 93k when I brought it in and other then the oil consumption it ran rather well.

My 2013 X5 has a new engine on order under the class action suit. I use a quart about every 700 miles. I complained about the issues when the car had less than 70k miles. They finally agreed it needed an engine once I passed the 80k mark by about 50 miles. Delaying action on their part certainly helped them as now I'm in the 45% bracket by about 50 miles. It failed both the oil consumption test and a compression test.

I have always had american cars my entire life except for one Nissan which had minimal problems. I'm amazed at the issues that come with a BMW.

My 2012 550i suffered internal failure with no warning on July 5. Been waiting for a motor ever since. 69k miles. Something came apart internally while I was coasting on the interstate.

Route 66 is covering most of the cost. BMW/Dealer did not offer me anything for transportation until I went to a different dealer and complained, almost 3 months later I finally got a loaner. 4 weeks after that (in mid October) I was asked to bring the loaner back, and BMWNA got me a rental from enterprise.

Dealer SA called me a few days ago and said they still don't have a date. I've asked them dozens of times for a written copy of the estimate they gave me, and never received one.

Wanted a 5 series V8 since I was a teenager. Someone in my parents neighborhood had an Alpine White E39 540i that was always in the driveway - I was in love with that car. Now I'm paying for car insurance and a loan on a BMW while driving a 4cyl Malibu from enterprise. I was hoping BMW would give me my car back for christmas

ok...here is my deal.

Bought my 2013 X5 50i in Jan 2017...only 11K miles (paid 35K for 85K MSRP)and as of today I have 51K miles on it. No real issues until recently notices engine oil low between Oil Changes. HEard about the engine issues and brought car to dealership for consumption test. Learned today it failed, and they will replace valve stems...and I have to cover any internal parts estimated 500-1000. So my question is....does this solve my problem? For how long? When and why won't they just replace the engine? Or is that next? Thanks for any help...trying to decide to keep or sell after this fix.

It depends on several factors from what I've read and experienced personally. The miles on the car. The amount of damage the oil leaking has caused. The condition of the turbos and related seals and lines. And to be honest the capability of the technicians on site. Each dealership will tally the cost of the repair with diagnostic pictures and send it to corporate who will sign off on the repairs depending on the condition of vital components and or override them and prescribe a whole other protocal depending on active warranty plans, previous repairs, cost effectiveness and or guidelines of the class action suit.

Has anyone gotten a replacement engine yet? If so how long did you have to wait. I have personally been waiting almost 8 months for a replacement engine and keep getting run around by BMW corporate and my BMW service center. I didn't even use the class action for my replacement engine rather my third party warranty paid out for it. This whole experience has just confirmed why I won't be buying BMW cars ever again.
