N55 Turbo Replacement /DriveTrain Malfunction
Was just told my F10 (2012 535ix) needs a new Turbo at 150K miles - Went through the debate of selling it vs repair - Love the car and its been reliable so I'm going to invest in the repair - BMW wants over 3K for the Turbo so I started looking at other options - I am not technical and would have an Independent Mechanic do the work - Options:
1- BorgWarner OEM replacement Turbo for approx $1500 + Labor 2 - Third-party Stage 1 Turbo kit from someone like Vargas Turbo (Any other suggestions) 3- Try to find someone that repairs turbos Thoughts? Help - HUge cost and trying to figure out the best options - I'm just worried I do this and then the Fuel injectors go or something else major... Thanks! Jeremy |

Not sure price on a used turbo but maybe that is a option? Fuel injectors is something you should just do at that mileage or not, they seem to be OK in the n55.. it has 150k so stuff will break. Is the car stock?

On #2, Pure Turbos has a great reputation from what I've seen/experienced.
Their Stage 1 is going to basically be a replacement for a stock EWG turbo, with a bit better power (and a bit more compared to your PWG), and looks like similar price. I don't think you need a tune or anything special to use it but you would need to verify that. I, and many others, have their Stage 2 ("PS2") which costs closer to $3,000, has a lot more power, but needs more supporting mods and a tune - things it sounds like you don't want to mess with at this point.

Definitely not PS2 then. I would explore PS1. It'd be a noticeable improvement over stock PWG, supposedly very reliable, and probably similar pricing. Only thing that I'd wonder about is tuning/supporting mod needs but my guess is there wouldn't be any.
