Exclamation High Mileage 520d Touring

Hi all,

I'm looking at buying a 2012 BMW 520D M SPORT AUTO but it's currently running with 117k on the clock (My budgets not massive) is there any advice or issues I should be wary of? Anyone running anything similar??
I know the seller who's a mechanic and he's recently replaced bushes etc.. so all looks in order to me and it does drive good.

Thanks in advance!

I heard that most diesels are bullet proof until the timing chain breaks. Some F10 models especially the 4 cylinder motors have timing chain faults, my mechanic have even seen timing chain letting go on N55 motors (very uncommon) and the motor needs to be taken out in order to replace the chain. Would be great if the seller or previous owners replaced the timing chain, they are reliable engines otherwise.

My 520d is at 171k miles. I did timing chain few months ago. Easy on these engines as no need to take it out.

As said, timing chain is the biggest issues on these but diy it and it's cheap to do.

As it's a Touring, the rear suspension comprises of air suspension rather than springs and the bags can fail even at lower mileage than this (mine failed at circa 70k). Might be worth checking if they've already been replaced.
