Today i got the first check engine light on my car and using bimmerlink app i found error 180001 saying Catalytic converter efficiency is below limit value.
I haven't driven my car hard for quite some time, usually city driving up to 3.5k rpm and i was wondering would a hard driving like getting up to rev limiter help catalytic converter to clean? Or should i just buy a new one or is it a God's sign for catless downpipe

The last time I had a low efficiency code (different manufacturer) it was the upstream O2 sensor. I just replaced all 4 sensors...

Thanks for input. Could a bad O2 sensor cause any damage to engine?
I can't fix the car until the weekend

If the CEL is flashing then I wouldn't drive it. If it's steady, you should be OK...

YMMV

Update: yesterday when i was changing lane i had to push the gas pedal for little harder and suddenly the CEL disappeared.
Could that mean that sensor isn't broken and the catalytic converter "cleaned" itself?

Be prepared to fix it

If the light went away just keep driving it. I wouldn't hesitate to give that German an "Italian Tune-Up". You've got nothing to lose, and if the cat is not performing then getting it good and hot might burn out some deposits.
