Removing the "crossmember" bar/beam underneath the car

Hello,

I had my vehicle transported to another state but the guy's truck broke down and so they had to switch it to another trailer or something. Idk. bullshit. Anyways, since then, there is an ANNOYING rattle coming from center underneath the car in low RPMs. Upon getting under it, it seems that that metal bar going across the body has been bent and is contacting the exhaust pipe, and that's what I am assuming is making the rattle. Not sure how those assholes fucked it up, but the shop said that it looked like someone drove it fast up a trailer or something. It had trouble getting on at first since it's lowered, so I'm not sure what kind of fuckery they pulled when they swapped trailers.

I had a shop remove it, try their best to straighten it out with a hammer, and reinstall. It helped (a little), but I still notice it and it still drives me crazy. The shop's original suggestion was to completely remove it. At this point, can/should I remove it? Couldn't seem to find a replacement part online and I don't think I really need it anyways?

Sorry I don't have any pix. If any clarification is needed, I will be happy to provide. Thanks.

This is the closest resembling pic I could find. This is a 2006 7-series but that black bar/beam in the pic is what is bent on my car and is contacting the exhaust pipe. What is this piece called if I wanted to replace it?

Don't remove it, people far smarter than you and I decided it was needed.

It's likely your exhaust is moving excessively.

So should I just live with it? Or try to find a replacement? Or... another attempt at "repairing" it? I have had 2 separate shops try to repair it.

Try to get your car on 4 posts lift and investigate what is happening. 4 posts lift will allow the car be on its own wheels, suspension, body.

Yeah, that's what we did. When we really got a chance to look under there. From both shops it has been to, this is all they can find, and neither have been able to fix it.

edit: both reputable BMW shops

So you and shop think noise is from that cross member. Two options: 1). remove it temporarily and go for short/ easy drive to see if noise is gone. 2). If that solved it, then order a new cross member or go to salvage yard. Install that damaged one for now till new one installed. That is my 2 cents. Good Luck!

You can get genuine brand new one for less than $40. I do not know if securing hardware are must be replaced or not necessary.

You do not need to replace the bolts. Here are the torque specs.

The aux heat thing only applies to hybrids - ignore 5AZ if you do not have a hybrid.
