Debadging

Is there a reason why people want to de-badge their car? it seems to more prevalent in Europe and Asia.

personal preference.....in Europe, the dealer will actually debadge the car for you. Most cars are debaged in Europe...not just BMWs. I couldn't get the dealer in CA to debage the car....In Europe, at least Germany, there isn't really anything special about a BMW....they are everywhere, and no one really cares what model/engine it is. In the US, its almost like a status symbol because you have a bigger/more expensive model/engine, which most people would only know by looking at the badge. Plus, most people leave the badge on in the U.S. Almost like a cultural difference.

when you order the car in Europe you have to choose if you want the badge or not.

The ones with large engines de-badge their car because not to show off, and the ones with small engines dont want to show they have just the small engine.

Just like me with my 520d :-)

I don't care what other people say about your car, I think it is alright.

I debadged for that reason, I don't want to advertise it and show off. Plus I don't have people trying to race me at stoplights anymore

But most of all it does look much cleaner, and it's easier to clean

Example over over-badging:

Look at me! I have a kompressor!

One option is to sub-badge your car.

I put a 316i badge on my 330xi. Great fun on the autobahn

It could be fun to take out the BMW logo and the model on my F10 550i and replace it with the Toyota logo.

I can see people looking at the back of the car and says "Huh????"

If you have to ask, you probably won't understand - 'less is more' .
For a comparison of opposites, just have a look at the number of idiots driving BMW's with spindly tyres and single exhausts, but covered in 'M' badges - it's only themselves who they're fooling .
