do oversized wheels wear the car more than stock?

I just put aftermarket ferrada fr2's on 295/30 r20s and 255/35 r20s for my 2011 535i rwd F10. Pretty big rear tires. The conversation of "oh those wheels are going to ruin your car" has come up a couple times since installing them. Any real concerns, or is this a myth?

running the same setup except on 21's. been running this for a few years with no issues. in my opinion the tires being as wide as we have makes the car look stupid aggressive and the contact patch going around corners is unbelievable. I don't know who these people you are talking to but they obviously don't know jack

Tire/wheel weight are more important than tire size. As long as you're close to, or under the stock weight you should be fine.

YMMV

With just me and wifey no. If I put people in the back if I hit a pretty good dip yes. But 100% of the time I don't have anyone in the back. How about you?

I replaced my own 19" wheels and tires with Dunlop SP Sport Max 275/30/20-r
245/35/20-f
I have incurred damage to two sets of front tires due to their low profile minimal cushion plus the conditions of the road where I live are brutal (Chicago). I was at the dealer recently and saw in the new M5s they are offering 285/35/20 RF

275/35/20 RF. I checked to see if this combo would fit my car (F10 2013 M sport )and they would not. Any others with similar instances or thoughts?

Yea I am worried about the time when I will need to have passengers in the back. Normally its just me and my fiance.
I was doing about 75 on the thruway, and hit a dip I didnt see before it was too late. Had a nice little rub on that one...

upgraded from 19'' Staggered setup to 20" Staggered - Rohana RFX10 with same width 245X20X35 front and 275X20X30 rear with 35 & 38 ET.

Now i am dealing with Steering vibration issue 55+ miles and above. my 3rd trip is due to Discount tire and multiple calls to the wheels company figure out the issue weather its a hub ring issue or road force balance issues.

Having dealt with DT and aftermarket wheels, my bet is the centering/hub-centric ring. With sophisticated/sensitive suspensions even a little off will cause vibrations. I had rings off by as little as .5mm cause vibrations.

I fixed the issue yesterday!!!!

You are right. it was the hub centric rings. The DT guys didnt know that the front wheels are already hub centric and they are suppose to use the rings only for the rears.

I had to get on a call with the wheel company and clarify this with the DT guys. They installed the rings at the rears and bingo!!! The car feels great.. Can't believe how even such tiny little things make a huge difference.
