ConnectedDrive rebooting after map update

A week ago I tried to update the 2018-2 Europe maps on my F11 (2013 with professional navigation) and it failed to complete and has caused continuous Connected Drive reboots (every minute). This happens whether the car is stationary or moving.

Today I took it to an independent specialist who updated all ECU firmware to the latest version however the Connected Drive system wouldn't update (after multiple attempts) and the problem remains. He said that the Connected Drive unit will need replacing at a cost of more than £1,000 (car is out of warranty)

I had previously updated to 2018-1 without incident so the problem is clearly caused by the 2018-2 map update.

I have informed BMW that they are liable to fix the problem because their map update is responsible for the damage. I have stated my intention to take legal action if they do not provide a satisfactory resolution. I will also go to the press.

Has anybody had a similar experience and how did it conclude?

Cheers

Have you tried a dealership?
They should be given an attempt to rectify at least.
I don't know the laws over there but given the last attempt was via 3rd party you maybe SOL.
Good luck

Hi,

Found this thread whilst in despair trying to get my car out of the same situation.

I have the Pro Nav. Maps from BMW download Manager, all paid for.

After upgrading to 2018-1 I found plugging in my Samsung S7 via USB to charge put the Connected Drive into continuous reboot. Since then I had been using the phone only via Bluetooth. Everything else worked well.

A week ago I updated to 2018-2. The update uploaded over a couple of journeys, was reported as all OK, but did not request me to enter my activation code. A day later (after working perfectly for 24 hours) the system went into reboot mode. Wiping all settings and starting at FM radio 87.5 white noise. Very annoying!.

I put the USB back in and kept reloading the software. Tricking with lots of reboots. Received warning the software on USB was same as current, but over time got the all OK message when doing the upgrade.

I have had it just restarting for a couple of days, where it keeps settings such as radio stations and navigation history. I even had 1 day where I thought it all cured. But today, back again to rebooting every couple of minutes.

During this time I had the whole system reloaded by a BMW workshop. They took it for a drive and said all was OK. It was definitely back to original, with all key settings etc back at default. They can't identify a definite cause.

At a bit of a loss here. It does seem that using the BMW update to the maps has been the trigger for the failing. I have tried turning off Bluetooth as some mentions of that on the internet. But I could not get it to create a permanent stable state. Whenever I think it cracked as an issue, a few hours later or next day the unit is back to continual restarting or rebooting.

Any advice most welcome.

Hey fellas, I have an F11 2013 535xi had it about 2 months and out of nowhere my Connect drive stopped working. it keeps rebooting every 2-3 Minutes. the screen freezes about every minute and I am not able to switch the mode or am/fm/ or Bluetooth. but if I use the cluster on the steering wheel it works. but when I get the station I like the system reboots and erases my saved stations and goes to 89.9 FM station. this keeps repeating about ever 2 minutes.

any suggestions and how much will this cost?

I'm experiencing exactly the same problem with my 2013 X3 - was the rebooting resolved?

I have had people come to me with this issue before and the firmware on the headunit needs updating. Use Esys and latest PSDZdata and flash.
