The option I went with is Quaife limited slip from Birds garage in the UK, Another option is wavetrac.

Is it a simple swap for the 5 series and is it worth it?

Yes, I think its worth it. Its a little spendy ($2500) plus shipping, It takes some effort to install, But it will definitely help get the power to the ground. The wave trac is available here in the states, but where I live no retailer has set one up before. It requires machine work, because ring gear is welded to carrier. So I contacted Birds and they have them ready to Ship. No need for core, because of shipping cost. They just charge a small fee for case. Looked into M5 electric LSD, but would have to change axles, plus have gear change done. Hope this helps.
