Oil Ow-30 or 5W-30
I use an 2015 BMW 528xdrive which got 160000 Kilometers in it. Company recommends OW-30 or OW - 20. The place i live in i could only find Mobil 5W-30 is it fine if i use that and plus its a cold part of Canada.

Go to the owners manual embedded in iDrive and do a keyword search using “OIL”. Then scroll through the info to see the oil viscosities that BMW recommended for you engine and model. Perhaps there’s more selections that what the “company” told you.
See examples below (form my 2013 650ix GC) of how to find the specific oil viscosities for your BMW:

So long as that Mobile 5w-30 oil meets the BMW LL-01 spec then you should be just fine.
FWIW, I used the BMW TwinPower Turbo Oil for my first 4 oil changes on my "new-to-me" 2015 535i. I started off with 0w-30 then switched over to 5w-30. The Oil Analysis reports I received back showed much less material wear with the 5w-30 vs the 0w-30 (BMW Branded Oil). I live in the Pacific Northwest so climate is a bit warmer than Toronto. Personally, I've never been a big fan of any 0w-# oil. Maybe it's old school habits and invalid thinking on my part, I dunno. But I do know that I get healthier Oil Analysis reports with the heavier weight oils. These days I use a 5w-40 that meets the LL-01 BMW spec. |

In the US, Walmart carries European Mobil 0w-40. I've been using it for years and it's LL01. Sometimes they have Castrol Euro 0w-40 too. It would be fine for your application.

In Toronto winter when you are parking outside, especially overnight, you should use a 0w not a 5w. You need that oil to flow and if it won’t flow it’s going to bypass the oil filter which is worse.
Get a 0w-30 oil - there’s lots of them. If for some reason you can’t afford oil changes and the 5w is that much cheaper, it won’t kill you. Prioritize more frequent oil changes vs 0w is a win. |
