Anyone do the F10 Dashboard Ambient Light Mod?
I thought I saw someone mod their F10 dashboard with ambient lighting....if you've done the mod, can you post a picture?
(Red lines in picture) Although there are eBay light strips you can tuck under the dashboard trim, I want to use BMW parts (same parts used on the door trim)...but not sure if I want it all across the trim (above the glove box and radio) or just above the glovebox, so any pics would help..... Thanks! Last edited by M_Bimmer; 03-15-2025 at 12:49 PM.. |

I tried this. I thought I could use the USB port in the glove box but it did not work and killed my idea. You won't be able to use Bmw genuine parts on this.

Almost done with the mod...biggest effort is trimming the bottom of the trim and not messing up the trim itself.
I'm using the 90 degree LED source from the door panel pocket, and ran the wires down to the footwell light wires. The footwell light modules has two lights sources and 4 wires, ambient red, and courtesy white LED light. I used the long light guide from the top of the door panel, and uses a little heat to curve it to the dashboard curvature. The LED light is being driven by the footwell module, so by tapping into the gray and gray w/ red dash wires, they work like "factory". I will do the trim above the head light switch on the driver's side in a few weeks (need another LED connector) I will post pictures this weekend. It looks awesome..... Cheers |

Close to 10 hours spent fitting the ambient lights, but well worth it

Hello,
I have a big issue with my BMW F11 LCI. I have OEM ambient light and I replaced with beter one, Symphony 64 collors (5 different modules) The ptoblem is that my light are flikkering when is turning on (like in the video). The new modules are powered by the original ambient light source from the doors. Can somebody help me with some hints how to fix this ? Thank you in advance ! |

The OEM driver to your ambient lighting uses PWM from the Footwell Module (A58), and unless you are driving your aftermarket LED's (via resistor only) directly from the Footwell Module (A58) via the gray + gray/red wire pair, the aftermarket driver module is receiving a PWM power source from A58, which acts like cycling power on/off, which in turns, cycles the power to the aftermarket LEDs. You will get pulses LED operation. To correct your aftermarket installation, your driver modules needs to be tapped into a constant 12VDC ignition source. Given the complexity of your F11, and it's electronics, I'd never put ANYTHING aftermarket electronics in the vehicle. Good luck trying to find a power source that will work as intended, other than your lighter socket, which it too will do funny things, like stay powered on for a bit of time after the ignition power has been turned off in the vehicle. Do not hook your aftermarket LED controller straight to your battery, else you'll be back on the forum asking for more help. Let us know how it turns out. Cheers. I still have some concerns about this, why the same kit works very well on BMW F36 2018 also with OEM ambient light ? I will try to keep ''permanent'' 12V from other source for the doors modules and only Main module will remain connected to the OEM ambient ligth source (to have the trigger ON/OFF). Hope to be OK after that. PS: Of course, lighter socket will not be taken into account ! ![]() |
