I commute about 600 miles a week. For me, a Tesla works great.
Swimming along the freeway with other people in $40-60k cars/SUV’s the cost of a Tesla (M3/MY) is sort of a moot point since there are other cars relatively priced same/more so it’s just a matter of gas and routine maintenance I’m saving.

The road warrior is better off getting that Prius or high mileage/gallon car but honestly I would not want a Camry or Prius anyway.

Another poster said it well…. Not everyone needs to have an EV. It works for some, it doesn’t for others. All the gas I save during the week makes me feel better when I drive my catless M3

Off-topic but sort of on topic....

Why did BMW call give their electric vehicles the "i" designation (i3/i4/iX).... why not e3/e4/eX)?

Its German nomenclature, you know they like to do things confusing rather than accurate

In all seriousness, I'm not sure why, but the original goal for BMW EV's was under what BMW had called "Project i" so they likely just took that further for vehicle models. Also they probably liked what Apple was doing maybe?

Maybe they kept the e designation for their hybrid models?

I'm guessing they want the "i" to stand for "Intelligent". In the past, "e" has stood for "economy", like on the 325e E30 model.

Because BMW doesn't like consistency...

Now there's eDrive for their RWD electric vehicles, not to be mistaken for the sDrive?? RWD vehicles.

No, flat out NO. Electric while stunning in performance lacks in excitement. The honing machine makes the same noise as the Tesla.... Boring

I agree. Don’t want an electric car now or ever. They are heavy, boring to drive, no sound, and what happens when the battery is kaput?

I don't think I'll ever want a 100% EV. I've driven all the usual suspects and the Taycan Turbo S was a real driver's car but @ just over $200k there are many other cars I'd rather own. I'm waiting to check out the Rivian SUV and the Lucid Air but it's unlikely these will change my mind. I wouldn't mind a hybrid that's strictly performance-based. I've been a passenger in a 918 and it was stunning. Unfortunately, I don't see this as a reality as most are going 100% EV. We'll have to see what hydrogen fuel cells bring. I think given the limited supply of raw materials for batteries this is ultimately the future.

sDrive covers front wheel drive vehicles too. I’m pretty sure the “S” refers to single axle.

I’m not at the point of wanting my fun car to be an EV, but I can definitely see swapping our X3 for an iX3 in a couple of years.

For a fun sporty or sports car, I don't want an EV yet. I would much rather have an electric truck as the use case makes more sense for me, however the current examples are still too costly. I will be watching to see how the first iterations of the Lightning, Silverado EV and Rivian do in the market, and curious how they improve future versions.
