Preferred Driving Mode?
From the time I bought my 550i M-Sport, I've been happily driving around in COMFORT mode. I often forget I can add to the already wonderful driving experience by switching to SPORT or SPORT+ because if I need to pass someone and a nice little press of the throttle doesn't do it, I just down shift a gear or two. I've found that while very fun, SPORT/SPORT+ is too aggressive for driving around the DC area.
Do you guys drive around in SPORT or SPORT+ in your every day commute?

i always forget too. I had a 328i for three years and I kept it in comfort probably 90% of the time. In the three months I've had the 535i, its been about the same. LA traffic gives me no reason to drive in sport or sport+. haha

Unless roads are snow covered, I start the car, "accept" iDrive warning, then change the mode to Sport, seems to be my default, "8/10 times" mode.
Sport+ less often, seems to be my "summer mode", Comfort rarely, even on long trips. |

Comfort 95% of the time. If you're driving casually, Comfort is probably the best mode as it won't hold the revs too high, helping gas mileage, easing transmission shifts, and generally making for a smoother ride (between transmission shift points/speed and damper rates if so equipped).
I generally only change to Sport if I'm in a real rush to get somewhere and know I'll be flogging the car a bit. This becomes a bit of a must as the stiffer suspension is needed to control the weight of the car in harder corners. The more "ready" transmission (holding lower gears) is generally also nice for more aggressive driving, helping to reduce the amount of throttle input needed. Overall, the car is just more alert and agile. But again, I don't find myself putting the car in Sport all that often, since normal driving becomes a bit too twitchy and unnecessarily wasteful of gas. As for Sport+, I think I tried it only once. I don't believe it does anything other than give you more leeway with the removal of some driver's aids... and the ability to use launch control. It's almost silly that it's included, along with launch control for that matter, in a 4400lb luxury sedan.

Monday through Friday comfort mode; Saturday and Sunday sports mode. I drive through traffic so much I can't even pass 40mph on the weekdays. That's why I got a fully loaded 528xi bec I'd waste all that money for a V6 just to go 40mph 5 days a week.
I get it a lot of haters here for 528s, but I ordered and payed for every features I wanted. Didn't want to borrow ("lease") a car bec I don't need the latest and greatest every couple of years. |

Pssssssttttttt.... It's a straight 6... I went for the 6 mainly for family vacations. Didn't want a 4-banger when fully loaded trying to climb mountains. Besides, on a trip to Texas earlier this year we averaged 31mpg over the 3100+ miles. |

"Sport" 90% of the time, even on my 10 minute drive to the commuter train station. Car just feels like it is asleep in "Normal" mode. I NEVER drive in "COMFORT" mode, EVER. Car feels like a big boat in that mode. Way too bouncy for my taste.

Comfort.
When I need the sport mode I just tap the shifter instead of messing with the buttons.

I actually drive on Eco most of the time. Probably really doesn't save much but especially driving on the road in West Hollywood and the freeway, I'm stuck in traffic most of the time. My commute sucks right now. Trying to find another job closer.

Sport+ most of the time unless I'm moving in a slow traffic.

Comfort. I find Sport holds gears for a *little* longer than I'd like, and the throttle response is a bit touchy. Such is life when you're used to driving manual though (my 128i).

Comfort most of the time.
ECO to start up on colder mornings for 10 minutes or so, or when hiway cruising w/ no traffic Sport in slightly heavier traffic when I'll need to maneuver, may take the form of using M/S; and on backroads for fun. |

Comfort is the best for my route, except for the occasional lugging feeling but after a few miles of Sport, im good!
Sport gives me a whiplash too often..i have a stretch of my drive that involves a few stop signs Getting on the fwy is definitely more fun in sport though! whats eco? ha.... maybe on a long trip......

I drive in sport mode with manual shifting via paddles 100% of the time. It's personal, but that's just the way I like it. I am always in the right gear and the vehicle is always responsive. All of my previous cars had manual transmission.

If I am in a highway cruise, then the shifter is in normal and mode in Comfort. No need to waste gas keeping higher revs in that scenario.
