Today I was speaking to a friend who owns a 1999 328i with over 262,000 miles. He claims that aside from some cosmetic repairs and maintenance, he hasn't really had to do much to the car.

Sooooo, that got me to thinking. What's the largest number of miles on a 5-series car you've ever either personally seen or heard about from a trustworthy source? I'm interested in year and model and any relevant details or anecdotes about the car. TIA!

I had a 2000 528 wagon that I drove to about 190k miles and it was great - mainly maintenance items, but I did need to replace an ABS module.

Sold my 2008 528xi last fall with 204,000 miles. The new owner now has about 215,000 miles on it. Uses a quart of oil every 7,000 miles or so. Still original front & rear differential fluid, transmission fluid & filter were changed once at about 125,000 miles.

My e39 have just shy of 300k my old e30 m42 had over 400k my f10 550i needed a new engine at 90k

Man, a new engine at 90k? Isn't that pretty typical of the 550? I've read that model has serious issues.

152k miles on a 2012 550i. Ive done valve seals, top timeing chain guide, coolant lines, pcv hoses, vanos gear and solenoids and turbo diverter valves. Gonna change out the timing chain soon and maybe the oil pump. see if I can get it to 200+ miles.

My '04 E60 525i has 190k miles and still going strong. My cousin is borrowing it temporarily... I'm actually thinking of getting it painted and restored for daily duty.

My '13 F10 550i has 68k on it and every week I wonder if something major will happen that I will be fighting with my aftermarket warranty on repairs.
