I think this statement is driven by marketing; to get more people buying gas powered M cars right now and to instill a fear that these are somehow more memorable than they really are...

Really different to imagine how these EV M vehicles will effectively deliver feelings of passion and soul. Without that, aren't M vehicles doomed?

The ICE Engine Is Past

BMW M has no choice but head in this direction or invest in Hydrogen drive tech. The laws all over the developed world will absolutely require zero or near zero emissions on the timeline that they are proposing.

I really don’t understand the pushback from some the people out there to something beyond BMW control and generally aimed at the wellbeing of all.

Let’s hope the tunes of the times can provide some entertainment to accompany thre performance and make up for the loss of engine noises.

But these are EV, Frolich is talking about hybrids, less battery = less weight. It's a stop gap until the EV M is here within a couple of generations. Hopefully the I4 will be juicy until then.

It would be killer, but also impossible. At least for the next few decades.

Actually, the exhaust sounds of all old M cars will be on a sound file and you will be able to select your favorite ICE M car exhaust sound via the i-Drive menu called "M Sound."

My suggestion would be to select the mechanical yet melodious harmonies of the S85 V10 or the P65 V8 to be piped into the driver interface via BMW M-design Speakers.

Change the sound of the car with a touch of a screen.

This is all sarcasm of course but you know it will likely happen.
I know you're being facetious lol but it would be embarrassing if you're blasting V8/V10 engine sounds inside the car while people outside the car are trying to figure out if it's even running.

One suggestion - just cancel the whole M division and just sell them all under the i line. Let M die with dignity

I always thought BMW M would build a naturally aspirated, 8000+ rpm motor combined with hybrid just like the LaFerrari by 2025.

Now that I hear M2 will be made in Mexico starting 2022 for cost cutting, it doesn't seem very likely.

I'll buy an EV if and only if charging stations become as commonplace as gas stations AND a full charge would take no more than 3 to 4 minutes. If BMW or any other car company can guarantee these conditions then they will have my business.

Serious question: Why do you need that? (gas station common charging and 4 minute charge times)

How often are you driving more than 300 miles in a single day?

What's the smallest straight 6 or V8 a manufacturer can make with lowest emissions? I don't need to go fast, I just need to hear and feel like its going fast!

The headline reads: Full Electric BMW M Cars Possible After 2025.

I take that to mean that it may be possible to have some fully electric M models by 2025, not the entire M line-up.

I doubt internal combustion is going anywhere, anytime soon.

I would, however, love to see an electrically assisted M drivetrain soon. And it looks like the next gen M5 will be the one, provided the M550e experiment goes well.

Great idea.

I think I'll load a sound file of a cat being dragged across the street 😂

I still do not like electric cars, would I buy one to commute? yes, would I buy a minivan fully electric? yes, would I spend close to $100K on an electric sports car, no way. I just love rolling down my windows and hearing the sound Ford mustang GTs, hellcats, Ferraris, Lambos make, beautiful sounds. Attending an IMSA race and hearing the GT cars roar, just intoxicating.

I don't care how superfast electric cars are, silent sports cars are lame. I watched a Formula E race and it sounded like golf carts going around the track

"Germany’s Bundesrat federal council agreed to ban fossil fuel powered vehicles by 2030 in October 2016, when it also suggested for the European Commission to introduce an EU ban on diesel and petrol vehicles. German Chancellor Angela Merkel agreed to these plans in August 2017."

European countries banning fossil fuel cars and switching to electric

So, 2025 is right on schedule for the Germans. Electric is coming soon. Except in the US. I am sure we will be the last to get onboard with this.

They should make an exception for sports cars. This is silly.

I agree you don't NEED an ICE to commute but these green zealots are just insane.

Germans can't take an idea and just be moderate. Tolstoy said it and now I'm saying it.

Protestantism, Catholicism, Clausewitz, Nationalism, Communism, Neo Liberalism, Imperialism, And now Greenism. These guys just take something and will f up everything for an idea.

Less than 3 decades after the Berlin Wall and they are back to their old tricks. Petty, insidious, presumptuous, cowardly. do the Germans have any capacity in their brains to learn anything besides racism, Xenophobia, imperialism, and anti-sémitismes? They have mistaken kindness for weakness yet again. Never forget the past or risk repeating history.

Die Grunen: kreigsanstifter. Kriegsverlangerer.
