Exclamation Porting inlet turbo

Hi,

I was thinking of porting the inlet, exhaust turbo, for more flow and faster spool I can do it really cheap at a friend shop, is it worth doing it.

If this is from turbo to intercooler there is already an option available from ftp. I am actually installing it next weekend hopefully.

I think he is talking about the actual turbo housing vs the inlet.

But you would want to do an after market inlet pipe.

Not sure about the gains because you'd still have the restrictions of a stock turbofold and both turbines… but it couldn't hurt, me thinks…

Just comparing this to what PS2 does…

Yeah I am not sure either if just upgrading that housing would cause efficiency issues without upgrading the wheels.

I already did the inlet with ps2 and next weekend I am upgrading boost pipe (intercooler to turbo) and cold side intercooler to charge pipe from ftp.

it would not hurt to try. Especially if it's a fun cheap project. Just be sure not to go further in than where the impeller blades begin. The turbo makes boost by compressing air between the outer edge of the blades and the inner diameter of the compressor housing. So don't touch that! lol. You can definitely try to clean up that "step" in the inlet.

Will you see any noticeable gains from it? probably not. Most of the gains come from actually boring out the compressor housing AND installing a larger properly-sized impeller wheel. This is essentially how a PS1 works (same to the turbine housing and turbine wheel).

If you already have it out and you have the means for it, go for it! Hurts nothing at all as long as you don't shave THROUGH the metal, lol. Then you'll need an aluminum welder to fill the hole you just made lol lol. Good luck!

thats excellent. I do like that he went back and cleaned up his work around 42min mark. I don't see the problem with you giving that a shot sir!

If you do this, I do suggest doing a before and after log. Butt-dynos aren't exactly reliable lol. Data will show if this in fact did anything useful or not
