I rely heavily on the traffic info. Besides, these old eyes can see the factory 10" screen much easier than the tiny (by comparison) screen on my phone. I don't use the remote services, but I do use the traffic and on-line functions. It's much easier to find a business using the factory system than fumbling around with a phone; which is illegal here.

As opposed to buying a new car, I will (probably) do whatever I have to do to keep these functions.

Are you talking about the MyBMW app? It just worked for me... The ConnectedDrive app is dead.

Yeah; I ended up calling in right after posting and apparently they've written up a service ticket. Sounds like it's a singular issue.

Just curious - does that mean that my car clock will no longer auto-adjust and change to daylight savings time?

Maybe look into getting an Andream carplay/AA box installed? If you were local I'd install it for ya, but, alas.

I'm now super glad that BMW killed ConnectedDrive and won't be upgrading my car from 3G because it got me exploring NBT Evo option and just yesterday I installed it in my car. Carplay is a game changer and I wish I did it even sooner. Having Waze (or even Apple Maps) in place of the BMW map and RTTI is a 1000x better. No arguing that. My new Evo HU came with installed GPS chip so I didn't need to worry about ATM>TCB or any of it. Honestly cost wasn't too bad and definitely far less than what some popular retrofitters are charging.

Ironically, I received the email from BMW about my car not being eligible just this morning.

I find BMW advanced real-traffic far better than google maps or waze, and prefer it to Apple maps, mostly due to better traffic/congestion management as well as the fuel-saving and miles limiting features not available in the cell-phone apps. Yes, the HUD is also a big feature that is missing now.

This. Does the EVO provide HUD navigation info?

It does not, but I personally always had it disabled in my HUD. I will miss it in my 6WB cluster, but again for me the benefits of Waze/Gmaps/Amaps outweigh that feature.

Oh well... I guess I'll have to wait for the BMW upgrade (or worse case get a new car, which probably won't be a BMW). I know they say there won't be one, but if they have a retrofit for the 2016 I see no reason it won't work in a 2014.

There is a service bulletin out for this retrofit - see this post on the F15 forums. The list of affected vehicles doesn't even list the F10, although F06/F12/F13 are included. 5 and 6 series use a similar architecture, so I don't see why F10 is being left out!

My guess is there is a lot more F10 than F06/F12/F13, and since they were lower cost vehicles they just don't want to bother. I don't see a technical reason why F10 would be excluded from the upgrade, but I can certainly see a financial one.

Just an FYI...as long as your nav maps are pretty much up to date...you still will have BUSINESS INFO which can be accessed using the POI (point of interest) data accessible in iDrive. You will find a search box that has filters to reduce the amount of businesses to cull. For instance if you need to find a McDonalds to feed your brood while on vacation in an unfamiliar location...you can go to POI, search for restaurants, then use the controller knob & select M-C-D...and McDonalds should appear in the list by nearest to farthest. Select the one you want and their address & phone info will be selectable. You can then select call to see if their dining room is open or if you'll have to do drive thru.

You can also select for directions & nav directions will be given. Some if this can probably be done using voice commands as well. Unfortunately all of this could have been done using Concierge service.

Honestly and hypothetically speaking, if BMW only offered a pay-to-upgrade option to go 4G/5G, I would still go with the NBT Evo retrofit route. No argument. To each their own, but I find Google Maps through Apple CarPlay 100000x better than ConnectedDrive in every way, even while losing out on nav showing up in my HUD. I've had to send my Evo unit back to the shop that sold it to me to code for touchscreen support and going back to my NBT in the meantime makes the car feel old again and the navigation experience frustrating. End of 3G sucks, and will suck for thousands of F10 owners, but it's not like we don't have better alternatives. Just saying.

Understandably Apple Carplay is great, but having navi in the HUD is a safety feature. My experience with google maps has not been at all better than the native eco-friendly programming in iDrive. Even Apple maps didn't work in an area lacking connectivity in rural Georgia for me. iDrive navigation works without Internet service.

My solution is to just listen for the nav prompts and read the road signs, rather than blindly (heh) follow the turn by turn

I called it. It's easy. Be nice. The person who answer's job is customer satisfaction. They will look up your last 7 to see if you qualify for the upgrade. Mine did not so I stated the lack of an upgrade for Real-Time traffic made my car fundamentally unsafe as I am now a distracted driver and asked how to file a complaint. She filed it and took down my statement.

I just finished a 2000 mile trip and sat in avoidable congestion and jams numerous times. Running Google Maps on my wife's phone didn't always alert us if she was using her phone for other things. If she did detect a re-route, I just needed the first turn or two of the re-route and then my NBT changed it's route and I was back in business. It got me thinking about the Carplay MMI Prime Retrofit.

So, I had a chat with CJ at BimmerTech about it. I asked if it could run AppleMaps or Waze simultaneously in the background while I used my NBT for it's split screen maps and HUD. He said yes it would.

So for those with CARPLAY, can you set it to notify audibly only when there's a re-route?

If so, doesn't that solve the problem of losing realtime traffic?

Some questions about this better Carplay if you have time:
1) Can you split the screen so you have a perspective view on the left and a Facing North view on the right that you can flip back and forth between and zoom individually with the iDrive knob?

2) When you approach a highway exit, does the unit automatically switch the right screen to a diagram of the exit with accurate signage and then go back to what you had before after you make the turn?

3) Does Waze or Apple maps tell you the preferred and "next best" lane to be in for an upcoming junction?

4) Does the Carplay navigation automatically switch to nightime colors when ambient light changes via the sensor on the review mirror?

5) How did you get BMW to move your VIN over to a new head unit and subscribe you to connected services again?

6) Do you lose everything when 4G goes away?

TIA

Utilizing Cell Phone Data of driver?

I am puzzled as to why BMW cannot configure utilizing the owner's cell phone data via bluetooth... Surely there could be a method utilizing a bluetooth either from the car's bluetooth or an external usb drive.. everyone will go home happy.

If my kids can watch movies on their iPads using my phone's data connection, surely BMW can update traffic.
