Engine Light Reset P0456

Went to start the 2013 535XI on Sunday morning and the engine light was on. I was out of town so I ended up driving it all day Sunday and Monday before I could get a code reader on it. Did a system check and everything was fine , so I was not perticularly worried.

Plugged in the code reader and get P0456. Problem with the EVAP. However, the code reader shows EVAP system, as well as all the others passes the readiness check. Tried to clear the code and it won't clear, or turn the light off. I'd like to clear the code and turn off the light to see if it comes back. It seems strange that there is an EVAP code, but the system readiness checks fine on the OBDII reader.

What am I missing? I've never had a fault code in this car before. In my Land Rover I get one or more a month. Usually I just hit the clear button on the OBDII scanner and it clears the Rover. Is thee a trick with these F10's?

Anyone know if there is a way to clear the codes with a OBDII scanner?

I believe that you should be able to clear that code. I've heard that "some" OBDII scanners cannot clear codes. Maybe your particular one can't clear them on the F10.

If you note what scanner you're using, maybe someone will be able to advise.

Clearing Engine Check Light will most defiantly will bring it back, as its emission related code. The EVAP error code is most likely due to faulty DMTL (old known Purge Valve). It's located behind the rear passenger tire in the wheel well. To know for sure if that is the issue, you need to use BMW ISTA-D. If the issue is with DMTL, check with BMW Service Adviser as this part is covered by warranty beyond standard one up to a curtain mileage.

Oddly enough, the engine light has gone off by itself. I assume it must have been a temporary condition.
