Road vibration

Hi guys, I recently bought new tires, re straightened the rims, did a wheel alignment and balancing, but the car at speeds between 50/60 mph vibrates on the highway. Under 50 or over 70 car drives great! It's just in that speed window that happens. Car is sitting at 104k miles. Any ideas of what if could be? Thank you guys for the help.

What you're describing seems a lot like a bent wheel or wheels. I recognize that you mention "re straightening the rims", but were able to see them spun on a wheel balancer? It doesn't take much to create problems at certain speeds.

On another car, I had to bring my wheels to the balancer 3x. On the third time, the person said the tire had a flat spot which made it more challenging to balance. Possibly from autocross.

I'm having the same.

Took it to Discount Tire for balancing, it was a bit better, but still there (around 75 mph). Took it back, they said they thought both driver-side wheels were out of round/bent, and recommended new wheels. I specifically went to DT because they advertise road force balancing, but for whatever reason, they didn't use it the 1st time. ??

Not being ready to drop a couple thousand on new wheels and tires (I really like the OEM 351 double-spoke wheels, and 2 of the Pirelli run-flats were brand new when I bought the car), I decided to find a different shop.

The 1st time at the new shop, which also has road force balancing and advertise they can straighten wheels, they said the front driver's side wheel was definitely bent. They charged $150 for straightening the wheel, and did a road force balance on all 4.

Still had very similar vibration issues, it might have been a tiny bit better. So took it back again, where it's waiting to be looked at by the expert who straightened the one wheel. Apparently, he is at a different location, and they only took the one wheel over, this time he will check all of the wheels.

Maddening!

351's notoriously bend easily. Which is why I switched to forged 343's.

Ahh, had not heard this before about the 351s, thanks.

Follow up on my story...the shop says their wheel "expert" who does the rim straightening found no other wheels bent, but did do a roadforce balance again on all 4 and said 2 of the other wheels needed balancing.
They said they're not sure why the balance machine at the original location didn't get it right. Guess this ain't an exact science...

My theory is that because run-flat tires weigh more, they magnify any balance issues. ?

Anyway, went for a quick spin on the highway and it's definitely better.

Mine is like this at times too. Sometimes silky smooth. Other times vibrations. Not sure what it could be. But I have a new set of conti dws06 about to be installed and my guibo is due so I'll be ordering that now

You may want to check on your control arm bushings to see if they have worn? I had an old E39 that had a vibration no matter how many balances I had performed even after a remount of new tires. They found that the bushings were worn and that the vibration is a symptom. YMMV

However, I have worn control arm bushings on my F10 550ix (as indicated by my dealer) and I have no vibration issues at all. I have MPS A/S 3 non run flats on my stock 18" wheels for reference.

It was the thrust arms, completely transformed the car's handling after replacing them. No more vibrations, tighter and smoother steering

Thrust Arms?

Was it the Tension Strut pair (31126775971 & 31126775972) $253 each, or the wishbone, bottom pair (31126794203 & 31126794204) $304 each?

Why are these so much cheaper, (31122450815 & 31122450818) $186 each, and (31122450813 & 31122450814) $233 each, that includes bolts and nuts?

Left and right lower tension strut. Part 31-12-6-777-733, 31-12-6-777-734. The f10 goes through them often because of its weight. I believe this parts correspond to the xdrive 5er. The parts you posted first at $253 each are for non x drive cars I believe.
